Step-by-Step: First Grade
Submitted by: Scrapbook.com

In trying to spice up my scrapbook pages and step outside of my comfort zone, I began looking at digital layouts for inspiration. I am not a digital scrapper but one technique I see over and over again in computer-generated pages is a faux crumpled-paper effect. I decided to try this with actual paper to see if I could get the same look and was quite surprised with my results. I used the Katlin Collection Kit by Crate Paper to complete my "First Grade" layout. Here is how I created this page step by step.

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Ink the edges of the Tutu Pink cardstock.
  2. From the Katlin Collection, cut the Notebook patterned paper into a 5" by 9 ½" strip. Crumple the paper into a ball. Smooth out and make the paper as flat as possible. Ink edges and creases of the pink side of the paper with an inked sponge. Adhere to the background so that it is 1" from both the right side and the bottom of the page.
  3. With the flower side up, cut the Heartbreaker patterned paper into a 5" by 7" piece. Crumple the paper into as tight a ball as you can make it. Smooth out the paper and ink edges and creases with an inked sponge. Adhere paper so that it is 4" from the right edge and 2" from the bottom.
  4. Cut a 1" by 10 ½" strip from the Daydream patterned paper. Ink and adhere with the green side up. The right edge will be flush with the right side of the background paper and the bottom edge is 2 ½" from the bottom of the page.
  5. Using the striped side of the Notebook patterned paper, cut a strip out following the design. Ink edges. Adhere on top of and halfway down the green strip.
  6. Adhere photos.
  7. Adhere Paper Frills so that it overlaps the top edge of the Notebook striped paper.
  8. Print journaling onto the cream side of the Daydream paper. Cut into strips. Ink edges of each strip and adhere to the page.
  9. From the white side of the Daydream paper, punch a scalloped circle. Using the 1/8" circle punch, punch holes around the edge. Ink and adhere so that it overlaps the bottom edge of the left photo.
  10. Adhere and stamp the title. Add rub-on hearts.
  11. Ink and adhere the flourish, tucking it under the scalloped title.
  12. Using the brown pen and starting from the title circle, draw a frame ½" from the left edge of flower paper and 1 ½" inches from the top of the flower patterned paper.
  13. Adhere buttons.

I hope you enjoy using this technique to craft some of your own pages. Try using different weight papers to see the different effects you can create.
