Step-by-Step: Oh Baby!

Finding out about a new addition to the family is such an exciting moment! When we found out we were expecting our second child, I immediately wanted to take a photo similar to the one we took when we found out about our first child.

While I wanted to treat each child and pregnancy equally, at the same time, I wanted the layout about how we found out to be unique to this child.  I used many of the same elements in this layout as my first "expecting" page, but I'm pleased with the distinctive look of the finished product using the Cosmo Cricket "Jack's World" collection.

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. I began by printing the photograph on my photo printer.  The final image is about 6" x 9".
  2. Next, I chose a brown cardstock for the background and the Jack's World collection of patterned papers to keep the color combination gender-neutral.
  3. I trimmed two strips of patterned paper to layer behind the photograph.  The yellow stripe piece is about 9" x 4".  The turquoise piece is about 8" x 8".
  4. To create a softer edge, I added a punched border to the top of the turquoise square using the Fiskars Threading Water border punch.
  5. Next, I created a thin red frame from patterned paper to outline the photograph layered over the patterned papers.  I mitered the corners of the red strips so that they framed the photograph perfectly.  Instead of completing the 4th side of the frame, I let the red strips continue off the edge of the page to leave room for an embellishment and to anchor the design to the right side of the layout.
  6. I liked the bunny design on one of the Jack's World papers that included the text "you and me".  It seemed to fit with the theme of the start of a new pregnancy.  I cut a pair of bunnies from the paper, rounded the edges of the rectangle with a corner rounder and then adhered it to the layout next to the photograph using 3-D adhesive squares.
  7. To carry on the bunny embellishment theme, I added a sticker from the Jack's World collection kit to the far left side of the layout as a base for the title design.
  8. I used a variety of alphabet letters to create the main portion of the title, slightly overlapping the photograph and patterned papers.
  9. Next, I added the sub-title "oh" with Making Memories rub-on alphabet letters.
  10. To finish off the title, I added a sticker exclamation point, also from the Jack's World collection.
  11. I trimmed a scalloped die cut from notebook paper to fit below the title block and added the journaling with a brown Zig Writer pen.
  12. The finishing touch was to add a brown outline with the broad point of the brown Zig Writer around the perimeter of the layout.
