Whenever I finish a layout I end up with scraps of paper. I put the scraps into a basket and leave them until a time when I feel the need to use some of them up. Generally I use them to make cards but more recently I have been creating my own embellishments.

I keep the embellishments in a box under my craft table and when I'm looking for something a little more original for a layout or project I reach into the box to see what I can find. Here are some examples of spring-themed embellishments that I have created:

Bee & Flower Journaling Block

  • Making Memories Journaling stamp set
  • Prima flower
  • Papermania flower
  • Doodlebug brad
  • Studio G stamp
  • pink cardstock in two shades

To create this embellishment I first stamped the journaling block onto pink cardstock and cut it out. I then stamped a greeting on the light pink cardstock and layered this onto the journaling card. I added two green flowers with a pink brad and then a bee sticker.

I used this embellishment on a spring greeting card:

Grow Album

  • BasicGrey paper
  • pink cardstock
  • Papermania flowers
  • Doodlebug brads
  • Hobby Craft ribbon
  • watercolour paints
  • BasicGrey rub-on
  • Elizabeth Bell stamp
  • ColorBox ink

This has to be my favorite embellishment - I just love using this range of stamps and found it very therapeutic to color in the image. I simply stamped and painted the image, and then mounted it onto pink cardstock. I cut a circle out of the paper, added ribbon and layered the image on top. I placed the rub-on onto pink cardstock, cut around it, and adhered it on top of the image. To complete the embellishment I added two flowers with brads.

I added this image to the front of a scalloped album from Papermania, but I think it would look equally great on a card or layout.

  • chipboard butterfly
  • Papermania flower
  • brad
  • BasicGrey paper and rub-on
  • black ink
  • circle punch
  • purple cardstock

To create this embellishment I simply punched a circle of purple cardstock and added the rub-on to the top.  Underneath this I added a strip of patterned paper, which I had inked around. I layered the flower by attaching it with a brad and then using 3D foam added the butterfly on top.

I attached this embellishment to a card using 3D foam, and added a coordinating ribbon.

Spring Circle

  • purple cardstock
  • green cardstock
  • American Craft ribbon
  • BasicGrey rub-on

This was a nice easy one! I cut a circle of green cardstock and applied the rub-on. I wrapped the ribbon around the purple cardstock and then added the green phrase on top.

I used this on a notepad in which I can record all my spring memories:

Lamb Tag

  • green cardstock
  • white cardstock
  • Hobby Craft  ribbon
  • BasicGrey rub-on
  • Cricut Animal Kingdom

When I was thinking about spring and what it brings, my first thought was lambs. I simply had to use this die cut from my Cricut machine to create this little tag. I used my Cricut to cut the lambs on the border setting, added this to the green cardstock, rubbed the phrase on the bottom and wrapped a ribbon around it. I punched a hole in the top of the cardstock to enable me to thread ribbon through.

I actually used this as a tag on an altered paint can. It also would be a great place for hidden journaling on a scrapbook layout, however:

These projects are quick and easy to make and are a productive use of those little scraps of paper I had hanging around. Try making some yourself using your own scraps and upload them to the gallery.
