As spring turns into summer, we enjoy the sunny weather and take more outdoor pictures. Therefore, this month's sketch features the sun which can be used to brighten up a layout and add a seasonal touch. It also features a block of three photos and some flowers. There is plenty of empty space which can be used to add a title and journaling or more embellishments. I asked several designers to interpret the sketch.

Cindy Early used the sun to symbolize spring for her Easter photos. She replaced the flowers with button "eggs" and used one of the photo spaces for her journaling. She replaced the flower stems with grass made from the most beautiful stitching, a really special touch.

Kimberly Rennie lives in New England where the spring comes later, so she changed the weather images.  She replaced the sun with clouds, the flowers with ducks, and the leaves with a puddle. She also added a nice touch by scalloping one edge of the photo block. Kim plans to make a companion layout entitled "Brings May Flowers," if the weather ever cooperates.

 In my interpretation, I chose to make the rays of the sun very large and every color of the rainbow. I also put a photo of my son inside the sun.

As with most sketches, this can be used for cards as well as layouts. I used the sketch to make this simple spring card. I switched the placement of the photos and the flowers, replacing the photo block with a word block. The pleats around the sun make it 3-dimensional, and I chose to have the sun stick out beyond the edges of the card.
