Product Name: Tim Holtz Scissors by Tonic Studios
These scissors are made for scrapbooking and paper projects. They are durable and resistant to rust and corrosion. They have a nonstick coating that minimizes adhesive buildup. They have extra-large Kush grip handles for comfort and less fatigue. They have a fine micro-serrated edge designed for detail cutting. They come with a protective plastic cap for the sharp-pointed blade. These scissors were built for cutting all types of materials including sheet rubber, vinyl and adhesive-backed papers.
When I used the scissors I noticed their comfortable handles first, because they are very easy to hold and are cushioned. Then when I cut I realized right away that their precision far exceeded any scissors I have used in the past. When I tested them on detail cutting, they did a wonderful job; there was no problem with fussy cutting.
Other qualities I’ve noticed over time are that they still seem very sharp and I have not had any adhesives build up on the surface. I also love the protective cap, since my two year old loves to test out Mommy’s tools. The cap attaches securely and he has not managed to remove it yet. In addition the scissors have cut easily through all materials I have used, including chipboard and wire.
The only complaint I could imagine someone would have is the tiny serrated edge marks the blades leave behind. However, you would have to be viewing the cut item so closely to see them, that I really do not believe it would ever be an issue.
Overall, I must say that I have refused to use any other scissors for paper crafting since I got these. They have really worked well for me and I would highly recommend them.
Tips & Techniques:
- When using precision scissors to cut tiny details, you will achieve the best results by holding your scissors still, while turning your paper.
Here is a layout that I really loved using the Tim Holtz scissors for, lots of fussy cutting from patterned paper.
Layout above was created for The Color Room challenge week #26, using the Color Room sketch and color palette. Find their challenge blog here.
These scissors were also used at Creative Escape 2008; go here to watch videos that reference this product.
