For this month's Color Combo Challenge, I decided to use the Scrap by Color tool at Scrapbook.com to help me with my color choices for my son's sixteenth birthday scrapbook page. This is the photo that I uploaded:
This is the split complementary color palette that Scrap by Color generated for my layout:
It was just perfect for all of my photos, actually,
For my main color, I decided to use the darkest blue, and I chose the other three colors to supplement it. In this two-page layout, the base is the darkest blue, and the basketballs and football are different shades of the brown. The green is represented by the strips of green patterned paper that act as borders at the bottom of each page. The patterned paper that is underneath the green paper has all of the colors in the palette, with the addition of some white - a neutral color
Neutral colors can be very effective when combined with other colors. They can add a pop of color or provide a resting place for the eye if there are a lot of colors in the layout. In this case, the black hockey puck border allows the viewer to "take a break" from all the color and excitement in the rest of the layout. On the other hand, the white journaling box draws attention to the story behind the photos, which I consider to be just as essential as the photos themselves. Journaling usually has a special place on my layouts, and I like it to stand out. (Note: The title and embellishments on this layout were all created with the Cricut Expression.)
If you are also a card maker like me, this color palette works very well for masculine cards. I made this card for my father-in-law's birthday, using some scraps of patterned paper and stamps from Fiskars and Hampton Art Stamps.
These colors would also be great for a little boy's card. With the right stamps and embellishments, you could even use them for feminine cards. It's really a very versatile color combination!
I hope you try this month's Color Combo Challenge. With Father's Day coming up next month, these colors would be just perfect for all of your crafting projects. Remember to post your creations to the gallery so that we can all see what you've made. Happy crafting!
