Leukemia Update 4
By: Annasmom

Well, we are in the 4th week of the 30 day treatment. This week is supposed to be the worst. So far that has been true. His white blood cell count got so extremely low and he got an infection from the tunneled IV catheter in his right chest. So they had to come in and put a PICC line (different kind of IV catheter) into his right arm. Then a different surgeon came in today and removed the infected one. He started having severe muscle and joint pain yesterday but it seems to be getting a bit better. He had the 2nd bone marrow biopsy on Tuesday but we haven't gotten the results yet. He has had about 10 different doctors come in and look at him for this and that. I can't hardly keep their names straight. Thank goodness for the white coats with the names on them. Anyway, the biggest news today is that his hair started falling out a lot. Clumps of it. He's not to upset about it so that is great. I'm probably more upset than he is. He is still having to have transfusions of platelets (1 unit today) and blood (probably 2 units tomorrow). Next week his body will begin to rebuild itself and hopefully we can go home by the end of the week. We are not sure at this point but the recovery period between treatments may be as long as a month instead of 2 weeks. If that turns out to be the case, he will be out of the hospital for June, in for July, out for August and back in for the month of September. That is if the first Chemo did what they planned for it to do.
That's definitely what we are counting on!
Thanks so much for all your comments and prayers! They really do make a difference!
Lynn

Thank you for updating us Lynn! I'm keeping you both in my prayers. Now for Brady's joke of the week. =0)

A blonde bought two horses, and could never remember which was which.

A neighbor suggested that she cut the tail of one horse and that worked great until the other horse got his tail caught in a bush. It tore just right and looked exactly like the other horse's tail and our friend was stuck again.

The neighbor suggested she notch the ear
off one horse. That worked fine until the other horse caught his ear on a barbed wire fence. Once again our friend couldn't tell them apart.

The neighbor suggested she measure the horses for height. When she did, she was very pleased to find that the white horse was 2 inches taller than the black.

You both must be such strong and amazing people to weather this storm! I can relate to the severe muscle and joint pain. Whenever I am sick, my muscles and joints HURT! That seems to be my vulnerable spot. Yet, I bet what I've experienced in the past is only a blip compared to what Brady must be going through.

I am attending a breast cancer scrapbooking fundraiser tomorrow, and came across this quote: "Once you choose hope, anything is possible" - Christopher Reeve.

Lots of hugs, and take care.
Jennifer
