Maybe some other time I'll get into my whole torrid past, but let's just say for now I used to own a fairly large scrapbook store in New Jersey, which for many reasons I had to close in February 2005. I, of course, kept a small supply for myself (a 2,000 sq/ft basement full, which among other things, including a full line of Bazzill cardstock and 20' of custom counter space). But as dry and cozy as the basement is, it isn't completely finished - and it's LONELY!
Skip ahead almost 2 years - 2 years of lugging stuff up and down the stairs into the dining room. Well, I've HAD IT! I have decided to take over the guest room, and that journey started this past week. I need a room that I can work on projects for ME and for my show (SCRAPcast.com in case you coulnd't tell!). Plus, after almost 2 years of podcasting, I have the resources now to take on a video podcast, and dedicate myself full-time to podcasting & scrapbooking, So this mini-craft studio will also be our production room for the video-podcast as well. I know that many scrappers don't even have a closet to work from let alone a basement AND a guest room, I am extreamly lucky!
I've already gutted the room, removed the queen size mattress and replaced it with a spare couch/fold out bed. My daughter calls it the 'relaxing room'. She's right! The closet has been emptied, with exception of my boxed wedding dress. Of course now I'm relapsed into being sick AGAIN and my husband pulled his back out from moving all that furniture with me. Right now I have to settle on picking out paint colors. I have some ideas, but maybe if ANYONE reads this blog you can help out? I'm hoping to make this room redo a group effort! I'll do the painting and building, if you all help make the choices!
My old store was painted a lilac purple, and it was extreamly relaxing and peaceful. My thoughts for my studio were pale yellow walls with grape/lilac purple accents, and maybe some sage green, like a pansy flower. There are other rooms in my house painted shades of yellows, and part of my bedroom is lilac purple, so painting color is NO big deal for me. I have to be surrounded by color all the time. The room gets tons of natural light, and I've got great floor and Ott lamps for nighttime cropping.
The closet doors are getting removed and my husband is going to fit it with pegboard so I can put up peg hooks to organize and some of my acrylic paper trays too. I've got some old cute wicker tables I'll spray white in the spring, and two cafe chairs from my MIL that I will recover with a cute fabric, once I find some!
The biggest challenge by FAR is finding nice looking but extreamly functional storage containers. I have a few assorted plastic drawer bins and rollling carts, but I'm not sure this is the way I want to go. I've got four cute wooden bookcases that I want to bring up and have lined with storage boxes, but they have to LOOK cute too. I suppose that can wait until later. I hate making a decision early and not having it work out by the time it comes to take action.
No, wait, the biggest challenge will be SORTING and ORGANIZING my supplies. Obviously not all my paper can come upstairs, the basement will still have to be my own personal store and storeroom, but a lot of the items that I want to use are packed away still and I have to dig through copier boxes to get to them. And we all know that "out of site out of mind" is a killer in scrapbooking. Figuring out what to bring up and how to organize it will be hard. I'm used to organzing products in a large scrapbook store, not for personal use! YIKES!
Ah, well, today is the last day of the year. Actually it's already 2007 for all my Aussie friends. I'd better get moving on finalizing the colors, I want this room to be done in 2 weeks!!!! How's THAT for a New Years' goal!??

WEll I'll be watching to see the progress - I love big projects like this. I like the closet idea, removing the doors. OTT lamps are the best, love mine and wouldn't give it up. You seem to have your game plan pretty organized without anyones help LOL!!! I pity your poor hubby's back, and having a very bad back myself and been in a brace for a long time, I highly recommend thermal heat wraps!! Hang in there!!
