What a great weekend I had in Houston! Well, Tomball to be more specific. My best friend, Anita, lives there and we spent the weekend scrapping at her house, staying up til the wee hours, making the most of our short time together. I don't know about you, but I scrap better with a friend or two. Anita and I love to give each other feedback on our pages and when I scrap alone it's just not the same. My bride-to-be-daughter, Holly, came out to visit for a while on Friday night and my first-born daughter, Heather, came out on Saturday to visit and make cards to give to her friends. I say "came out" because it is quite a distance from their residences to Anita's house. Holly lives about 45 minutes away and Heather lives over an hour away. And it's all still Houston!!! I'm so very thankful to the Lord for the sweet fellowship with friends and family.
Speaking of the Lord, I went to church with Anita on Sunday and was so blessed to hear Scot Wall speak. He's the pastor of Magnolia Bible Church and the son of our first pastor ( Dr. Joe Wall) when Bill and I were new in the Lord and attending Spring Branch Community Church. What a privilege to sit under both men who love the Lord and serve Him so humbly. What a legacy for Pastor Wall Sr.!! Not by coincidence, Scot Wall's sermon was on Saul and David. I knew the moment I heard the topic that the Lord was speaking to me since my devotions all last week were on the same two people! This time the lesson really honed in on the contrast between King Saul and King David. Saul, while being obedient in most things, did not honor the Lord with a right heart attitude. He took it upon himself to do what he thought was right, while keeping to some of what the Lord commanded him to do. While David loved the Lord and obeyed with his whole heart, keeping to the whole commandments of the Lord. God does not want our "lip service" or our "picking and choosing" what we will do for Him. He wants our whole hearts. Saul was proud and haughty. He was unbridled and unyielded. The result is that God rejected him as king and chose David. David is described as "a man after God's own heart". He was humble and yielded to the Lord. Saul chose his own way. David chose God's way. Saul chose to neglect God. David chose to pursue God. Saul wanted his own will. David wanted God's will. Saul wanted his best. David wanted God's best....I want a heart like David's.
Have a blessed day and scrappy day!
