Whatever your preference for a holiday greeting, please consider yourself "greeted." I've been immensely touched by the Christmas greetings in my PM's this month, especially the past few days. With all you have to do, you’re still reaching out and spreading goodness. Thank you.
Eight years ago on Christmas Eve, Charlie and I were exhausted. We had been working 16 hours a day, six days a week to get Scrapbook.com built and ready to launch. The kids were all in bed, it was after midnight, and we still hadn’t wrapped their gifts – wrapping gifts is a love/hate thing for me and I always leave it to the last minute. While Charlie went to find some tape, I waited, lying down on the floor between piles of sorted gifts, and closed my eyes for a moment, trying to muster the strength for the hour of wrapping that lay ahead. The next thing I remember was Charlie’s soft voice gently calling my name and the rattle of black plastic garbage bags above me. Charlie smiled apologetically, and then said he’d made an executive decision. Each child’s gifts would go into their own black garbage bag, so we could get to bed. If we hurried, we could be finished in four minutes. ”
I felt sick to my stomach. Had our lives come to this: true Scrooges? I like to think that any holiday is better with “fluff,” so you can image my inner conflict. I’m a scrapbooker, for heavens sake, and we embellish! I gave in though, and with an exhausted sigh, I helped fill the bags. A few minutes later, we placed four pathetic-looking, lumpy garbage bags on our living room couch. We stumbled back to our bedroom, said our prayers and climbed into bed. I cried for about 10 seconds before the exhaustion washed over me with waves of glorious sleep.
I awoke feeling great until I remembered what we had done. There it was again, the knot of opportunity-for-embellishment-lost roiling in my stomach.
A few minutes later, our daughter entered the living room, expecting the usual multi-colored array of presents. Upon seeing the four garbage bags, she burst into tears. Where was the festivity? The happiness? The bells the bows and the “pretty” that signals Christmas morning? What kind of parents give their children something that looks like a 40-pound lump of coal? (Happily, she can laugh about it now.). Our three sons, of course, thought it was pretty cool. They could just dump the goods out on the floor and didn’t have to go through all that tearing open the packages.
So what’s the point of my story? Two things. First, the work we put into Scrapbook.com was worth it – hard work always is. And, second, black garbage bags are an option for lots of things other than garbage: e.g., suitcases, rain ponchos and gift wrapping, I’ve become so fond of them that we’re using them again this year—without the guilt! We’ll all get a big laugh.
I want you to know how much my family and I appreciate you. Our lives are blessed in so many ways because of your support. My sons all have jobs, at Scrapbook.com, and our grandchildren have their needs met. Scrapbook.com unites us, brings growth and so much happiness. We get to work side by side with wonderful people in the offices, in the warehouse and in this industry. And or course, we get to serve you.
As this year comes to a close I count each of you as a blessing, and I hope that 2008 brings you opportunities to realize your hopes, experience your dreams and achieve your deepest desires. Thank you so very much. Jill Davis
P.S. Excitedly, I’ve been finishing my next e-book (it’s coming VERY soon so watch for it). My monthly drawings have been out-of-site-out-of-mind, and it’s time to make good on them. I have eight surprise packages stacked in my office that are longing for a new home. Anyone who shares ONE of their 2008 hopes, dreams, resolutions (or whatever you call them) below is eligible. All drawings will be held on Thursday, December 27th.

Your site truely is a blessing. I thank you and your family for your efforts, and your time, You are helping so many people in many more ways than just scrapbooking. The love here is incredible! The people here are awesome! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Jill, I love your Christmas story...I was about ready to do that this year, but just got the wrapping done (including the gifts for myself!).
My hope for 2008 is that grad school doesn't consume every single second of every day and every ounce of energy, as it has the past couple of semesters. I need my "me" time!

I read this blog at the perfect time: I just finished wrapping my presents for my husband last-minute, too! My husband will be up in just two hours to start baking our Christmas ham, and I'm fighting with the tape dispenser.
I echo the thanks and admiration for SB.com and all the wonderful things it extends to its members. It really is an enriching part of my creative life.
My hope and dream for 2008 is to be able to start a family with my loving husband. If that dream comes true, you know I'll be scrapping all about it!

As far as scrapbooking goals, my 2008 hopes are that I can scrapbook with open abandon and not worry and fret so much about "following trends" or "making it perfect," but to enjoy the process and also take joy in the fact that I am preserving memories in my own unique, creative way. I get too caught up in trying to be "perfect scrapbooker" instead of making it my own.
My dream for the coming year is to be able to positively impact at least one person's life directly. :)
Jill, thank you for this site and for employing such wonderful people. Megan deserve extra huge kudos for putting up with some of us difficult "kids." :)

Jill,
Thank you for all of the hard work you all put into this place. I've only become active here this past year, but it is partly responsible for getting me back into scrapping after too long a break.
My hope for 2008 is a big one. My daughter will be 11 in February. My hope is for her to finally start speaking this year.
Have a wonderful holiday.

Thanks for this site and all the wonderful friends I've made, the inspiration I've received, and the cool scrap products!!!! Happy Holidays to you and your family.
My hope for 2008 is that my mother regains her health with an accurate diagnosis for her health problems and that the doctors can help her so she can maintain her independence for many years to come.

Thank you for sharing this story with us.. just want to let you know that this site is so wonderful and has brought so many people together. Many friendships built here, in addition to sharing about our paper crafting ... that is so precious. And everyone at sb.com is so wonderful.... thanks for putting together a community, not just a site!
As for my 2008 resolutions, I hope to get my health back on track, and to continue to focus on the important things of life: my faith, my family & friends and like a friend said, to remember "crackers don't matter" (don't sweat the small stuff).

Hi Jill. I want to thank you for all you've shared this year. I really enjoyed your stories of teaching the scrapbooking course to the ladies with different challenges and how they touched you. I especially (of course) enjoyed your "fun bus" blog!!
One of the things I'm looking most forward to in 2008 is continuing something I started January 2007 - hosetssing the photo-a-day challenge right here on scrapbook.com. I've met so many wonderful women and had so much fun. I started it last year as random thought for the month of January and it's turned out to have a life of it's own :) I resolve to continue riding the "fun bus"!!

Thank you so much for creating this site, and for sharing a glimpse into your lives and how the hard work can affect it. I love your Christmas story!
My resolution for 2008 is to scrap as much, if not more, than I did in 2007. 2007 was a wonderful scrapping year for me. I set a goal of 50 layouts (thanks to sb.c's 2007 album contest), and I achieved over 107 layouts! Plus I did numerous projects and a few cards. I have a child with a disability, so carving time out for myself takes effort. I pray for the energy to put forth that effort again in 2008, because the reward in 2007 was tremendous.

My 2008 dream is to get my businesses to the point where they are not a loss on our income tax, but paying bills regularly and boosting my savings. I'm an aspiring professional photographer and a Creative Memories consultant. I quit my fulltime job in August to work from home so I can spend more time with my almost 7 year old daughter. I'm looking forward to the summer, when she and I are home together everyday (pray for me, I've never been this much of a full time mom before!). She's going to work on her first scrapbook next year as part of our together time. She's getting a camera for Christmas (wrapped and ready for Santa to stick it under the tree) and I'm anxiously awaiting mother daughter photo shoots and scrapbook times.
I'm doing everything I know how to build my businesses. As far as the photography goes, it won't just be monetary income that shows that I've made it, but people buying my art because they appreciate my vision.

Thanks for sharing your story, Jill. I, for one, appreciate all the hard work that your family has done and will continue to do here at sb.com! Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!!
One of my resolutions for 2008 is to spend more quality time with my loved ones. I don't want to look back and wish I had spent more time with them when they are gone!!

Thank you so much for creating such an incredible community! This "really really bashful" scrapper has made some really special friends here - to my complete amazement! I have found so much joy on this site!
My hope for 2008 is to be able to "give back" more. I've been blessed with so much in my life, and now it's time for me to share.
Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas, Jill!
My goal this year is to continue to keep sight of what's really important to me and let go of the little things. I had a year full of wonderful blessings and I didn't enjoy them any less because the kitchen floor wasn't mopped. =)

That's a wonderful story Jill! And all of us are very thankful that you worked so hard because you have created a marvelous place for so many people to meet, talk, show off their work and find inspiration! I cannot imagine the amount of work needed to put together such a user-friendly environment I just know that you did it!! My hope for 2008 is just to stay healthy enough to enjoy all of my grandchildren and that my son and his family will be able to come and visit from England. We miss him!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Christmas Greetings to you Jill! Thankyou for founding a wonderful organization! Kate of KatesCreations sums sb.com up and I have put her quote in the library:
How precious is each moment we live, no matter what year it is. To gaze upon a tender picture and breathe life into it by sharing it with others, this is what makes Scrapbook.com so special. It is the place where no memory ever has to be lost, but can be passed on to friends, connecting us all...if only for one brief moment in time --KATE PRADO, PRADO'S PEN
As I read your blog, I realized that I feel the same way you did on Christmas Eve everyday. It is my hope that peace will come to the world, my valley, my neighborhood, and my home. Then, I will not have to force myself to "go through the motions" of living! And next Christmas will be a special one because I will be able to plan for it, not just let it happen.
This site has truly been a blessing for me, as I can go to a friendly place every once in a while and be myself.
Thank you
Glenda -

Thanks for the wonderful Christamas story about you and your family.
My Husband has to work tonite until 2 am and also on Christmas Day until 2 am. I told my DD & GD the airline business never closes so that's why we had Christmas on Sunday with them. WITH ALL THE BUSY THINGS IN OUR LIFE IT IS SO NICE TO HAVE A PLACE TO COME AND BE CREATIVE AND BE INSPIRED BY OTHERS.
I resolve to clean out the garage, take care of my health problems and to travel more with my husband this year (which is something he wants me to do).

Hugs to you friend!! I absolutely love this site, and know that it is what it is, because of who you are!! Thank you so much!!
I have soooo many things to work on this coming year, if I thought about them all, it would be overwhelming. My major goal is to think more of my family than myself: to lose myself in serving them. (And I get to be a first-time Grandma in 2008!!)
Thanks again, Jill!!! Love you! (Give Jana a big hug for me!)

Jill,
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!
One of my hopes for 2008 is to be a much better person to my family. To not be so negative towards certain family members and to apologize to the ones I have wronged and hope that they can forgive me.
Holidays hugs,

Great story...I may have to try those black garbage bags out next year! I spent 6 1/2 hours last night wrapping presents.
In 2008 I resolve to gain my patience back (which has since been lost after having two boys and becoming a substitute teacher)...and to take a photography class, something I've wanted to do for the last 15 years.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Thanks for the story. It reminds of the time my grandparents wrapped all presents in newspaper one year. My grandpa just wanted to recycle. He is always trying to save the wrapping paper (he is very gentle opening up presents). We have a traveling gift box with remnants and pieces of prior Christmas' wrapping paper.
As for this years hopes, my husband and I are moving back to the States, we are currently looking for jobs and hoping to have one by the first two weeks of the year. My biggest hope/dream is that we find good jobs for both of us and have a successful move back home.

That is such a wonderful story. I really wish that I could've wrapped all of my kids stuff in garbage bags this year. I can't tell you the hours I spent wrapping stuff. Including a present taller that I am!
My 2008 hopes and dreams. Of course it's to lose weight as always but I also hope to spend more quality time with my kids and expand my business as well.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! You should know how grateful we all are that you all put so much work into this site. Blessings! Heather

Thank you so much for this site! It has been an inspiration, a refuse, and a wonderful therapy "couch"!!! This year has been a tough one for me, with my house burning down, and the re-building! But it was made a lot easier witht he help and support from my "family" here at sb.com.!!! I doubt if there is a better community anywhere!!! Thank you all!!!
My hope for the next year is that my little grandson, Mason, does not have autism. He has been tested once, and will be tested again in a few months. I does look like he has it, but I know that God can do miracles, because he has done so many in the lives of my family and the people I know!! I will keep praying for him, and for strength for my daughter to keep being the most wonderful mother that she is!!!!

My wish, hope and resolution for 2008 is just to have a year of happiness and good health. 2007 was like a roller coaster ride for our family, and I think it's time we had a ride that's a lot more mellow.

Of course my resolution for the new year is a pretty standard one! I would like to lose a few pounds! I know it sounds cliche, but I am really serious this year. I have let myself get lazy and I don't like that. So, my goal is to improve my health! Thanks for sharing your Christmas story with us!

Jill,
Thank you so much for everything you and your staff do to make sb.com the greatest scrapbook site on the web (in my humble opinion!) I just joined in 2007 and I've made some really nice friends through the site. I may not get to blog and keep in touch with everyone as much as I'd like to but I sure enjoy going through the superstore and filling up both my wish list and my cart with goodies! :)
My goals in 2008 are to finally drop (and keep off) the pounds that I've been wanting to leave behind and spend more time scrapbooking with my five year old daughter. I love having the time for just the two of us to do something we both love. She can jam with her dad on the guitar but, she sure can scrapbook! I can't wait to see what she'll accomplish this year! :) I'd also like to figure out how to use all the digital scrapbooking things that I've acquired this year but still haven't attempted to do anything with them as of yet!
Best wishes for a happy, healthy New Year!
Lauri

Jill, what a wonderful story...I wish you the greatess sucess for 2008. My resolution this year is to be more creative, open minded, and MORE ORGANIZED!!! As a new member to this wonderful place I have had the opportunity to read and learn what great people can do when they muster their strengths together. SB.com empowers all who participate and nothing but good, great things come from it. I would like to thank you for the empowerment SB.com has given me. In just the past month that I have been a member I have learned soo very much! It has reflected in the LO's that I have been putting together. Ideas are endless, (not always great) but they always have room for improvment, which I can see and work on. I don't feel stuck in certain areas of the imagination. I know there are resources here that I can come to. SB.com is a great inspiration.
I want you to know, if it wasn't for this place to come to I don't think I would have had the "mojo" to complete a Scrapbook Yearbook for my first project. You see, my Husband started a club for ATV enthusists. This was one of his "dreams", something he always wanted to do. 2007 was his first year, held an open house in January and here we are at the end of the year, 9 to 10 events behind us, monies raised for charities, a membership of over 750 people and growing everyday. I am in the process of "documenting" these events for him. In March we will hold our first banquet, a powerpoint presentaion of photos will play to show the members all they have acomplished. The Yearbook I am doing for my Husband, not only the Club so that he will have a documentation of all "HE" originated, something he will have, to be able to hold on to. So again without finding SB.com I don't think I could have done this project without your input, ideas, tutorials, members, ect. It has just been a God send!! Thank You from the bottom of my heart. My hope and wish for 2008 is more JOY. I've come to realize that I will have to make that happen in my life and not wait for it to fall in my lap. My pastor spoke about joy at our Christmas Eve service saying that JOY stands for Jesus, Others, and You. That will be my focus for 2008 - Jesus, spending time reading his Word and in prayer growing closer to Him; Others, serving others with deep delight; and You, making time for me to scrapbook, have fun and enjoy life!

In 2008, my goal is to be a more dedicated and thoughful scrapper. Instead of just creating pages, I want to commit myself to capturing the memories. Even if it means I only finish 1/2 the amount of LO I would normally complete, I am commited to preserving the memories completely.
