Should I go to church today?   (5 comments, 40 views) Sunday, 18 May 2008

It may come as a surprise to some of you that  a pastor's wife would ask herself the question should I go to church today?   Sometimes I would just rather stay home.   I know, I know the people expect me to be there, my husband needs my support and well, it would just  cause to much speculation as to  why I'm not  there.  You know what though, none of these things is enough to get me to church.  In fact sometimes the pressure of it all would keep me home for sure.  So, I need some better reasons to show up on Sunday mornings. Here's a few....

Reasons I should go to church....

1.  Jesus is with me always and everywhere but when I go to church it's like going with him to a special place. A secret place where I can hear his voice clearer.

2.  There is a sweet fellowship with others that I would miss.

3  My heart is truly glad to sit under the teaching of my husband, Pastor and friend. 

4. I know God has something to speak to my heart today through the message my husband brings.

5. If I stay home, I may be able to sleep or catch up on chores but how sad for me to have missed out on the one opportunity this week to stop and be in God's house.  ("Better is one day in your house than a thousand elsewhere")

Hey, guess what?  I really want to go to church this morning!  Will I see you there? Will you go too?  Let's go!

Thanks for this. My dh is out of town today and I've been sitting here wondering if I really wanted to go or stay home. You've helped me to make up my mind. The Lord's House is a much better place to spend Sunday in than mine.

Oh how I can relate to your desire to stay home and do...whatever! Thanks for your honesty. I praise God for your choosing to die to yourself and go be with other believers of Christ. Besides the fact that we are told not to forsake assembling together, here's somthing else to consider...we have strengthening power TOGETHER with the saints to Christ's glory:
Ephesians 3: 14 - 21 "For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom His whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge---that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

Loved the Blog ~ So well put. We should go to Church for ourselves not for others. As Paul so wisely reminded us - Why is that it is so hard to do what I should and so easy to do what I shouldn't. Paraphrased of course ~ We have an enemy who tries to do all he can to keep us out of God's Word whether we are reading it or hearing it. He knows the power God's Word posesses. I am so glad you were able to encourage all the ladies above ~ Praise Him for His goodness and for your desire to witness ~ Have a WONDERFUL week my friend ~ Judy

Great blog entry. There are days....I wonder when this may start feeling like an option for our boys. Will they always find pleasure going to church and listening to their dad's? Thanks for articulating my thoughts..
