I'm a total nerd. I've always known it, but every now and then I do something that just proves it all over again. I get joy out of the nerdiest things that other people would find . . . oh . . . strange . . . or boring . . . or maybe even a waste of time.
My latest nerd activity has me soooo excited! My computer screen desktop has been bothering me for years. I just can stand seeing all those little icons on the screen in total disarray -- without any ORDER to them what-so-ever. I've tried to organize them by grouping them in categories as best I could, but the groupings would run into each other, and all order would be lost.
Then I took an online digi scrapbooking class (the one with Renee Pearson at BPS). As I was learning all about PSE and its functions, the first thing I thought of doing was organize my desktop using PSE. It took no time and was so easy. Here is my very organized-makes-me-so-happy-in-a-nerdlike-way desktop:
Oh how happy I am! As you can see, all my little icons are organized by category and sit in their appointed titled block.
If your unorganized icons drive you crazy also, here's how I did this:
1. I grouped my icons on my screen by category.
2. I measured my screen and created a document in PSE that size.
3. I measured my groupings (hold a ruler right up to the screen) and created different colored rectangles that size in the document.
4. I added titles to each grouping.
5. Brushes were added to make the whole thing a bit prettier. Would a total nerd have done that? Maybe not.
6. Save your creation and upload it as your new desktop. You may have to change the size of some of your rectangles, or move some of your icons around to make everything fit just right, but that's easy to do.
The sad thing is, I used to have the CUTEST picture of my boys on my desktop . . . but having my icons organized has made me so happy, I just can't go back!
Let me know if you're a nerd like me and want to try this. You can also let me know if you think this was a total waste of time. I often need a reality check!

I don't think it was a waste of time at all. First of all, if it makes you happy, it's worth the time, right? Second, how many other people do you know that have such a cool desktop? I have always been one to be drawn to the unique, unusual, unexpected. I really like what you have done, although I won't organize mine like that. My granddaughter loves coming to my house and seeing what photo of her I have given such a place of "honor", lol! Great job!

I don't think it is nerdy at all and I love it!!!! I think I may have to try that on mine too :) maybe in one of your blocks you can add back that pic of your boys. My husband organizes his screen like you do, now I am going to do something like this for his definitely not a waste of time!!!

Someone saw this Blog and referred me to it because they knew it would be something I would love. They were right. I LOVE it. I don't care if I'm a nerd or not.. its totally something I would do but never thought of it. Of course now that I've seen it.. I have to try it. Its YOUR reality. Treasure it.

I too think it is a cool idea, and it seems to me that if you wanted to put a photo of your children, there is a space in the top center? or I may be saying something I know nothing about LOL!
either way, too cool for school as my friends say!!

What an awesome idea! I'm defintely gonna have to give this a try. Mainly because my 3 (almost 4) yr old twins are really getting into the computer right now and maybe this desktop idea will be something easy for them to find their kid games on here. I"m definitely gonna give it a try!! Thanks so much for the idea!
