Step by Step Directions for using your computer for titles/journaling/embellies   (1 comment, 83 views) Thursday, 26 June 2008
There are many reasons why I use a computer to do my journaling and titles. These include (but are not limited to...)
1. I hate my handwriting
2. I think the pages look much more "professional"
3. I write lots more details and stories when I type as opposed to when i hand write.
4. I can edit what I write w/o crossing it out or using stickers to hide the errors.
5. I don't have to worry about running out of certain sticker letters
6. I can change the size and appearance of my writing with a click of the mouse.
7. I can make cool looking stuff

So, how do you do it? What do you need?

A computer and word processor program
Some vellum, shrink plastic, metallic or specialty paper or even plain old cardstock
A ruler

Here are the steps:
1. do your layout and leave room for your title or journaling block.

2. Open a New Document.  Measure the space you left on your layout.  Create a text box and make the size the dimensions you measure.

3. Type in the text box. Use any font and size you want. You can even mix up the fonts in the writing for greater impact.

4. Print out the writing on plain old inkjet paper.  You don't care where it prints on the paper. You are just using the inkjet paper sort of as a template and placeholder.

5. Use a scrap or cut  the vellum or cardstock or whatever it is you are going to print on to a size big enough to cover the printed textbox. (Metallic paper, mulberry paper, ribbon, shrink plastic....)
6. Use a temporary adhesive to adhere the "to-be-printed-on" piece on top of the inkjet paper. I like to use a spray adhesive but you can use anything --like masking tape. (You can use removable sticky like Herma but then it takes more effort to rub off the stickies.)

7. ***OPTIONAL*** Wipe your "to-be-printed-on" piece with The Perfect Printing Pouch. This product (invented by me) stops smearing and bleeding on all sorts of surfaces and dries the ink on vellum almost immediately!!!  You don't have to do this but if your printing doesn't come out crisp and dark, this is something to remember.

8. Put the paper back into the printer. You have to place the paper so that the printing will occur on top of the "to-be-printed-on" piece. On hp printers. you usually have to put it back into the stack with the paper facing down. On Epson's. typically, it faces forward but the top of the paper is placed in first.

9. Remove the printed scrap and put it on your layout. (NOTE: if you used a spray adhesive and you sued The Perfect Printing Pouch, you can immediately place it on your page and the ink is dry and the spray is still sticky.  If not, wait for the ink to dry and use some other method to attach the paper to your layout-more adhesive, brads, staples, eyelets, etc.

Questions? Just ask and I'll try to be more clear!

Thank you so much for sharing. I also like to use pc for printing, don't like my hand writing at all, so if you have more tips, send them my way. Being a newbie to sb is hard to know where to find such info, thank you so much
