So, now that we're in the new house - finally! - I think it's pretty safe to say that I will never go through that disaster again...
When we bought our first house, everything was much simpler. We went in to sign on the day they said the docs would be ready, we got our keys, we moved in, so, so easy... This time... I took a day off of work to sign our loan docs and drive out to the house to get the keys from the builder and start doing some prep work before we moved in - fans, blinds, paint, etc... Well, our loan officer didn't submit our loan when he told us he did so we technically didn't even have financing for our new house!! Grr. So, I wasted a day off work and a whole weekend of not being able to do anything before we moved into the house because of that. We were able to sign the next Monday, but were told when we got there that the funds wouldn't be released until the next day. For those that aren't familiar with the process, in AZ and a bunch of other states, funds are supposed to 'meet' you at the closing table when you sign your loan documents. I called Bank of America (whom I will NEVER do furhter business with because of this) and got them to make an exception to get the money out so we could get our keys.
We started moving stuff on Monday night and went over every night last week to take more things over so that when the movers came on Saturday (which had to be re-scheduled also becuase we didn't get our loan docs), it wouldn't be that big of a deal... Well, when the movers got to the house, there was only 2 of them and a little trailer for hauling - we had ordered a 24 ft. truck and 4 movers... So our move took over 9 hours instead of the 3 1/2 we were given as an estimate.
But, in the end, we're in our new massive house and I am completely exhausted. But in an entirely good way... I have a new scrap room that I am working on designing and I am very excited that the kids will have an awesome place to grow up.
Sorry about the rant, but I just had to get it out!!
