A Little INKspiration   (1 comment, 121 views) Thursday, 02 August 2007
Sometimes everyone needs a little inspiration, just a touch of motivation with some new idea's to pull you out of the same old stamping rut. I thought I would post a few ideas to try with supplies you may have laying around. Even if you can't do these ideas, they might trigger some of your own, and if so then please share as we always love to see your work!

Foil and Glitter

There's are two different ways to make this work. On my Christmas Tea layout I used embossing powder that is actually a glue. I used it on stamped images to great the ornaments, the "Tea" and the dots around the main frame. Using clear embossing ink I stamped the image and then sprinkled the powdered glue on top. When you heat the glue it becomes tacky. This is a great tool when a stamped image has fine details. Once sticky I added foil and/or glitter. With the foil flakes I used a soft paint brush to sweep away any access.

If you don't have embossing glue you can also use a fine tip glue pen to trace your image. It is often best to let the glue dry to a tacky texture before adding your foil and glitter when using the pen method.

Stamping On Transparency

Stamping on transparency is a great way to add a new look. You just have to make sure you have the right ink. For this layout I used VersaMagic, which is a multi surface ink. When stamped on smooth or glossy surfaces it has a beautiful shimmer. I love the look of embellishing directly onto a photo but was unsure of the outcome. Using the transparency was an easy fix. Not only did I not have to worry about ruining a good photo, I could place my hand stamped transparency any where! I also didn't have to worry about stamping across the "bump" where the photo and pattern paper meet.

Paints & Glaze

The use of paints doesn't have to be flat and boring. On my Rock Stars layout I used multiple colors for a more vibrant finish. Simply apply various paint colors with a sponge brush directly to your stamps. When my stamped design was complete and the paint was fully dried, I traced the images with Diamond Glaze for a raised and glossy finish.

Embossed Chipboard Charms

This was another fun project. Using Technique Tuesdays small chipboard shapes I created some fun charms. First I coated each shape with UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) If you do not have UTEE but do have regular embossing powders, you can create this same look by apply multiple layers of powder. Have your stamp ready and inked with clear stamping ink, this assures it will not stick to the heated powder and will leave a nice crisp image. When the powder has melted and while still warm (you need to work quickly) press and hold the stamp onto the chipboard for a few seconds.

There are also different ways to make the stamped image more clear. You can have your stamp inked with a dark ink, which I did here. Or you could even use paint by filling in the crevasses and then wipe away all the access paint. There are many possibilities when creating your own charms!

Stamping In Clay

Another great way to make your own embellishments and very easy to do. I created my own flower embellishments by simply rolling out a thin layer of clay, inking my stamp with clear ink to prevent sticking and stamped my image. I then used a craft knife to cut out the image. When the clay was dry (or finished baking, depending on the type you use) you can stamp and paint your hand made embellishments however you like.
TIP: Lightly sand the clay and wipe clean before painting for a nice smooth finish.

I hope these few ideas sparked some ideas and gave you a jump start to pull out your stamps and get creating!

Happy Stampin' !

Thanks for the foil and glitter idea. I just purchased some foil and tried to use a glue pad to stamp my image to foil and it did not come out how I thought it would but I do have the heat activated glue also and I will try that and see if it comes out better.
