Food Glorious Food!   (8 comments, 82 views) Thursday, 25 May 2006

My favorite food is one I don't ever get a chance to eat.  You see, eleven years ago I left Dallas for California and my favorite food can only be found in Dallas.  To be more exact it can only be found at a little restaurant I used to live down the street from.

When I was pregnant with my son, my darling husband and I used to walk to this little neighborhood restaurant at least twice a week for dinner.  And what, might you ask did we dine upon, fine steaks, lobster, chocolate.  No, this restaurant was called Snuffer's and the meal was always the same...Cheese Fries.  Oh, and these were not just any fries, they were the best.  Made from fresh potatoes with the skins.  Cut to that perfect size where the outside is crisp and the inside soft and moist.  They were fried, topped with seasoned salt and loads of cheddar.  They would then be popped under the broiler till the cheese was hot and melted.  That was the original cheese fry.  You may ask, "what is so special about that?"  Well, you could get them loaded.  Yes, I said loaded.  Top the hot cheese fries with bacon bits, green onions and jalapenos, then dip them into fresh ranch dressing.

I have tried cheese fries at many restaurants since moving away from my beloved Snuffers, but none has ever come close.  I don't know if it is the cheese, the ranch, or just the fact that it was my first pregnancy and I suddenly felt I could eat anything.  But those cheese fries will always live on as my favorite food.

When I moved to Washington from Texas allot of the food was different, my favorite back home was seafood, but of course my dad was a shrimper, I never had to pay for it, was raised on it. Boy was I surprised by the prices. Hope you find your cheese fries one day!!
