Well, I started to write about Christmas. I love Christmas. The decorations, the lights, having family and friend to visit. Gift giving, gift receiving, and most of all the celebration of Jesus's birth. But then I got thinking, Christmas is a lot of work. With all the decorations, lights, family, comes a lot of stress. Getting things ready for house guests, lots of shopping, money flying out the door like crazy. I love going to church on Christmas Eve and lighting candles while singing Christmas carols. Christmas movies, especially the animated ones, play all month long. But with my house always being the center of the holiday I get stressed! Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, but not sure it is my favorite. How about Thanksgiving? Halloween? Easter? 4th of July? Nope, nope, nope, and nope.
My favorite holiday would have to be one my family has invented. It doesn't have a set day on the calendar, and to be honest, it often comes more than once a year. What is this holiday? Pajama day! When things start getting a little to crazy around here, I feel we need to reconnect as a family, or everyone just needs some down time, we have pajama day. Everyone stays in their pajamas, no work is aloud to be done other than food preparation. We close all the blind and curtains and spend the whole day just being a family. We play board games, read stories outloud, watch movies and just cuddle. That is the part I love the most. Cuddling! My children will be grown soon and the time we have together cuddling and sharing in this way will be gone all too quickly. How long will a young man want to spend time wrapped in his mother's arms. And from what I hear, teenage daughters don't want much to do with their mothers at all.
Someday, and I am sure it will be way to soon, my family won't want to celebrate Pajama Day anymore. Then I know my favorite will become Christmas. Until then, Pajama Day rules!
