I did it! I said "NO"   (4 comments, 72 views) Tuesday, 14 November 2006

OMG!  I can not believe I did that!  After always volunteering for everything...after offering to help in every activity my children participate in I finally said NO!

The District Chairman for the BSA phoned earlier today to ask if I would be interested in becomming the Assistant District Chairman and I said no.  I never say no.  Ask me if I want to be on the board of the swim team...of course!  Do I want to be district chairman for the Scout-A-Rama....no problem!  How about teach at the PowWow.....Sure!  Oh wait, we want to do a WEST FAIR and you need my help....I will be there!  Do I really want to do all of these things?  Of course not.  I do them because I love my children and want to be involved.  But come on...there is a point where it all gets to be too much!

I guess he just called at the wrong time.  My son and I did a first-aid certification last night with Boy Scouts, tonight I was supposed to have a West Fair meeting.  Thursday night my dh and son have a PLC meeting.  And this weekend we have a two day swim meet!  That left Wednesday night and Friday night for normal family time!  So..........I SAID NO!!!!!!!!

As a fellow Scouter (Cubscouts to be exact), I say good for you!! In my pack I do a ton of stuff just because no one else will step up. But when the district calls I tell them no. I am too busy with my own pack to try to help a whole district. It might not be the best thing to do, but for my sanity it has to be. As Sherrise said it sounds like you do plenty for BSA already!!

Yeah!! Good for you. I've been there, done that. If we don't say "No" now and then, we end up losing out on valuable family time.
