Scrap room Challenge - Organizing and Placement Ideas   (7 comments, 63 views) Thursday, 03 January 2008

Sorting and Organizing:

I’m going to set up my room with different “work stations”. It seems to work better for me when I have several projects to complete in a short period of time. It’s kinda like an assembly line. While the paint is drying in the painting area, I can sew in another area. Or better yet, while embossing in the messy area I don’t get embossing powder all over my Wishblade.

Some of these things might not work for you, or some may give you ideas what you need to do in your area. Who knows you may need to add more things to your list.

Dry Stuff:

Alpha’s – Let’s get all of our Alpha’s in one organized location. Alpha’s are something that we really don’t need on the desk top, save that space for tools. So these can be a short walk away or on a shelf.

Paper – This is another thing that does not need to be on the desk top and needs to be put a short walk away or on a shelf. So lets go through the paper pull out the ugly that we know we will never use, but keep holding on to it so it will look like we have an impressive amount, and toss it in the purge box. (Remember you are also making space for the new paper you get this year). Organize by what ever method that works for you.

Ribbons – Time to work with the ribbons. This is a tuff one for everyone, including myself, but we need to get them in one location and in a container that we are happy with.

Flowers – All in one location. I’m still uncertain how I want to store these but right now clear jars are looking good. I do know that I want to sort by color.

Stickers and Rub-ons – All in one location. I have stickers in 2 different books and two different files in three different places in my room. So we need to get them all together in one location.

Chipboard embellishments – Lets attempt to get all of these in one general location. Any ideas on storage would be helpful.

Other Embellishments – A lot of things fall under this category brads, buttons, photo turns, hinges, etc… I have mine spread out all over the place! So we need to get these in one general location. So when we are ready to look they are all in one location and not piled on our work table.

Photos – All in one location. Lets get these all organized and in one general location these need to be located away from your desk top too.

Sewing machine and thread – All in one location.

Trimmers – These need to be on or near your desk let’s say with-in reach.

Hand tools – These need to be within reach, most used items on your desk top. Example scissors, pencil, eraser, rulers, mats etc…

Paper cutters – Big machines like your die cutters, punches, dream kuts, binding machines, etc... all need to be in one area. Also all the accessories needed for these machines all need to be in one location close to these.

Computer Stuff:

Computer area – Anything that has to do with your computer, or hooks up to your computer, needs to be in this area.

Fonts – Sort Fonts and burn to CD, remember don’t keep all your font’s just saved to your computer. 1. computers crash. 2. slows the computer down if they are all opened in the font folder. 3. computers get viruses.

Photos – Burn all photos on system to CD’s. We can print and sort what we want to scrap later.

Sketches – Burn all sketches to CD’s

Wishblade Files – Combine and organize all files and burn to CD’s

****Make sure you label your CD's with date, occasion, contents, etc... as you go and file them right away ****

Wet and Messy Stuff:

Ink pads, and stamps – Both in one location.  That way when you get a stamp the inks in that location too.

Foam stamps – Lets get these all together in one location, preferably close to your paints.

Paints and brushes – Check all your paints and make sure they are not dried up. Your paints and brushes need to be in one close together.

Embossing powder and gun – Keep these together in one location.

Chalk and applicators – Keep these together in one location.
