Since i am so very new at this i need to know. What is the difference between just using stencils (i have found many at the $1 store) or using templates?

Depends on what you want to use them for.


I think they are basically variations of the same animal, so to speak.

I believe... stencils are typically thinner and more like a mask. You can use them to paint, mist, ink a design. Templates are thicker and more for tracing and cutting.
Although I think this may be semantics-- it appears some people interchange the terms.
