...when you mention that you hope these gasoline prices don't lead to people "siphoning gas" and your younger co-workers say "siphoning gas? what's that?" and "I thought that only happened in the movies".

Wow!
How old are you?
I'm 37 and I knew exactly what you meant.
Are your co-workers super young or what?!
I am in shock they didn't know what you were talking about or that people really do that!

Haven't heard of anyone doing that in years! But, I know Daddy often had gas siphoned from his car while it was parked in our driveway. He even knew who was doing it, but had no proof.

LOL! I can remember DH siphoning gas from one of our own cars because we needed gas in our other car!

Last year I thought something was wrong with my car because I started getting really bad gas mileage. I finally realized my gas was being stolen and started backing my car into my driveway and it stopped.

Do they lead a sheltered life? This just happened to my mom about 2 months ago. So she started parking her car with the gas tank toward the house and where when someone walked up the motion lights would come on and scare them away. It has worked so far.

Cars in the UK have had lockable fuel caps for years now.

But yes, it was a problem when I started driving 25 years ago.

I'm 31 and I know what siphoning gas means. And you can still buy after-market key-lock gas caps, so I don't think it ever really went away.

Let's hope more people don't resort to stealing gasoline. But with the cost of gasoline these days, especially in California, you can see how it could become more attractive.
