I always thought the name Cricut was incredibly stupid! Never liked it.

I wanted to pronounce it Cri-cut too.

Then my local scrapbooks store had a Cricket (Cricut) swarm - so then I gave in and joined everyone else.

But I still think the name is stupid. I just don't like cutesy spellings.

Dont' get me started on Toys R Us!

I am right there with you on that one too!!!

I think a huge part of learning to read is SEEING words and remembering the correct spelling.

To have a TOY STORE use a backwards letter and incomplete word is awful!!!
Good example for children learning to read.

I think I've just realised why I went for the Silhouette...

I agree with everything about the Cricut. If they want a bug, that's how they should spell it. Yes it's clever, but not if it means people feel stupid if they don't see the joke.

Please explain how it's clever, because I don't get the joke and feel stupid.

I just presumed that although the spelling they have chosen should be pronounced "cry-cut" using the rules of pronunciation, Provocraft intended it to be pronounced "cricket", keeping the spelling of the "cut" part because it is a cutter. Then they could use the insect as their logo.

You really don't see it? I feel as if I'm stating the obvious, but now I'm wondering whether I got the wrong end of the stick all along. I'll admit it is a weak joke on Provocraft's part, but it was all I could come up with. I've never heard anyone from Provocraft pronounce it though....?

Okay. I get that.

I guess my opinion is that it's not clever, it's just dumb!

I think if they wanted to use "cut" and the bug, it seems it should be spelled some other way? "Crickcut" or "criccut"? At least those would READ 'cricket.'

Oh well!!!

I believe you are correct.

It's still funny though.

Linda - are you just a magnet for grammar errors? It seems as if everywhere you go, you are finding errors. Obviously, you have the skill to spot the errors, but they just seem to find you....constantly

Hmmmm... perhaps I am.

Although, I think it's because I am just very aware of them.

I overheard two ladies at the store the other day. "Don't you hate it when people write 'ect' for etcetera?"

Okay, maybe I am a magnet?

I know that typos and misspellings are the norm in online reviews, but this one had to be shared ...

"this is a really fun fast paste game ..."

really???? I had to read it a few times before I figured out what she was trying to say (and no, the game does not involve adhesive of any type)
