I really thought my gall bladder was acting up. I had all the symptoms and my doctor said he was sure it was my gall bladder. I went and had an ultra sound done on it and the results came back as being normal.

It has been over three and a half weeks of felling like crap. I can feel something just under my rib cage on the right side. I have had trouble catching my breath, headaches, pain in my right shoulder only, nausea, vomiting and just not feeling right.

Does anybody have any ideas. Several times a day, I get shooting pains that go through my head usually only on the left side.

Any help? Thanks.

Might be your appendix. Not sure though. Hope you feel better soon!

What else has the doctor done? He ruled out gallbladder, but obviously there's something wrong. I would be firm with the doctor that he needs to find out what it is.

i had the same thing.. my ultra sound came back fine .. but then they did a hydro scan i think it was called and found mine to be only working at 10% so they decided to take it out and whne they did they also found stones that were hidden and stuck in the tubes i guess. hubby said the pictures were really nasty..

so i would make them do more test

My test too came back fine and then I kept having horrible attacks. Finally they took it out and found 15 large stones!! Maybe another test would work better. Be persistent and firm with your Dr. Keep telling him something isn't right. Good Luck! I hope you start feeling better soon!

you can have a blockage of your intestine or a bile duct. It's when the gallstone has left the gallbladder and gotten stuck lower down.

Also your liver can cause these same problems. You can still have stones that get trapped in your liver. Did he run your liver enzymes?

Call a gastroenterologist or go to the ER. Don't tell them you already had an ultrasound at your doc office. DO NOT let them tell you it's the flu

I was misdiagnosed 2 times before going to the hospital and then they finally found the stones...they were small

I had the same problem a few years ago, having test after test... I got to where I didn't have time for anything else but going to have these stupid tests done, so I just gave up... which probably wasn't the BEST course of action, but...

IT WENT AWAY!!! Now, every once in awhile, when I have a REALLY fatty meal, the pain comes back, but then it goes away again. Hopefully you can be as lucky as I was... Good luck, and I hope you feel better! It sure sucks!

I had the same symptoms as you, the same problems, and it went on for over 2 years. Both ultrasounds were fine, all my labs were fine, but the gallbladder function test said it was only functioning at 2%. So out it came! I ended up making an appointment with a general surgeon and not going through my regular doctor. For me, the general surgeon would listen to me because of listening to other patients with the same problem.

Someone said it before DO NOT let them say its the flu. My regular doctor said that it was GERD (severe heartburn) and told me to take antacids. Just keep going back and complain until they ruled it out.

I would definately ask for a HIDA scan (that's the name of the test for gallbladder functioning). Although that means being injected with a radioactive tracer (the scan follows the tracer thru your biliary tree...the liver, gb, and the ducts), in my opinion it's worth it. Depending on the place where you have it done, they usually inject a hormone called CCK (we make that naturally after a meal) to make your gallbladder contract, so they can see how well it does...usually the pain comes with the contraction too, fyi. That's where my gallbladder went wrong...mine was only at like 25% or something...which is pretty borderline as I remembered according to the stuff I read online. BUT, when I went to the surgeon, I told her that I was having pain, while she looked at the report...not two sentences into the conversation she said "time to get that thing out".

Sometimes doctors blow off the gallbladder as a diagnosis because it doesn't fit the "typical" picture...like me...I fit none of the typical risk factors/correlated things. It took some persistance, but finally my family practice doctor ordered the HIDA scan. So be sure you don't give up. Getting my GB out was the second best thing I've done...right after having my tonsils out.

Keep us updated and Good luck!

I have an appointment on Monday at 4:15pm, so we will see what happens.

I ate a handful of potato chips thursday night and I was so sick all night long. No more chips for me! I am so tired of only eating salad, but seems like everything else makes my stomach hurt and it just goes right through me. I have a constitant ache on my right side of my chest and I can feel something like pushing in there. If I push in that area, I can feel a lump with my fingers. My back is still aching and sore.

Thanks everyone.

Oh, hang in there. I'm so sorry for you. Keep us informed. Have you tried eating some plain soups: chicken noodle...that worked for me until I had mine out.

When I had my gall bladder attacks.. the first time they tested me.. everything came back fine.. 4 months later when I was 2 months pregnant with my now 7 yr old DD i started having the attacks again.. and they ended up taking my gall bladder out a few months after she was born.

It could still be your gallbladder

Just as another thought - our minister's wife had the gallbladder when she was first pregnant, had it removed after the baby - and then was still having the same "attacks" after that. Found out it was a bile duct or something like that - it was spasming on her - causing the same issues as a gallbladder attack. Her gallbladder was not too bad, but the dr. told her that they don't find out about these spasms until after the gallbladder is removed! We in Columbus Ohio area and the only specialist for this condition is located in Indianapolist! Just an FYI!

Well I went in again today and he still says it is my gall bladder. He wants to do the scan next. I was running a temperature of 101. I have had a fever everytime I've been to the doctor (4 times since March 5th). He felt my neck and stuff and said I have a sinus infection. Now I have to take an antibiotic along with the prilosec and liquid medicine. I have such a headache, I'm just going to go to bed now.

Thanks again everyone.

Is this doctor a general practitioner/internal medicine, or a gastroenterologist? Your symptoms are VERY indicative of gallbladder inflammation/infection/st ones. You don't necessarily have to have stones to have inflammation and infection. Liver and bile duct issues are also good possibilities. The fever is really troubling, that and the persistant pain. Time for you to go to a gastroenterologist or surgeon but do not put this off any longer, it could spell trouble, nothing to fool around with. Please keep us posted but call him and insist on further testing or go to another doc tomorrow!
