SO what are your tools to start out with?

Cardstock
maybe some patterned paper
Adhesive
Trimmer

What else?

Heh, I always seem to find your question threads early on.

Definitely:

Cardstock
Adhesive
Trimmer (even scissors)

For ME:

Chalk inks (an assortment stack is perfect)
Watercolor pencils
Permanent Ink stamp pad
A few generic stamps

When people state "tools" I think of just that "tools", like:

Scissors
Craft knife
Cutting mats
Fine tip tweezers
Reverse action tweezers
Rulers
Paper piercer
Paper trimmer
Adhesives

Without these items then what good is all the other things that need these tools or least most of them?

Good supply of cardstock. Some coordinating patterned paper . (I found I bought a lot of this at first that I probably will never use.)

12" trimmer; small, sharp scissors; glue stick; Glue Dots ; flower punch; Stickles.

After those basics then I would need my stamps and inks
my sewing machine

And that's about it, the rest is just a bonus for me.
But I do LOVE cardstock!!!!!!!!!

definately a good trimmer, pens and adhesive. I don't really consider cardstock a tool but of course, that's necessary too. In addition:

microtip scissors
craft knife and glass cutting mat
chalk or distress inks-at least black and brown
baby wipes (yes I do consider them necessary. Scrapping is MESSY!)

Most other things I could live without but I would miss most definately.

Crop-a-dile is one of my must haves. I would also reccomend rub-ons and/or a few sets of alpha stamps.

All that basic stuff: trimmer, adhesive, cardstock, scissors, yes. I find I use my paper piercer a lot more than I ever anticipated. And PENS -- good pens, in all different colors!

My personal must-have embellies are ribbon/fiber and brads. Going back through a lot of my pages, I seem to use one or both of those items on almost every page! I think brads are becoming a "signature item" for me, lol.

Definitely Buy a GOOD trimmer. My first one was not the 12 inch and it was great for pictures but not good for SBing.

I am just now starting to get my tools together, lol. At first I was just using regular cardstock, and a little bit of patterned paper . Now, I have a 12" trimmer, a Fiskars Shape Cutter (which I love) some Fiskars templates. I'd like to try the Glue Dots but around here they're kind of expensive. So, I stick to my glue stick. It works but I guess it's just what you get used to. I'd really love a Cricut or Wishblade . But, they're not cheap, lol, as we all know. But, the design scissors are fun to use as well.
Anyways, those are just some random things I use.

I've gone through alot of stuff that I'd warn new, just starting out scrappers against.

If I was starting all over again, I'd buy the following:

1) Good rotary trimmer and good pair of scissors both small and regular sized.
2) ATG gun for my adhesives
3) Lazy Scrapper Organizer: for my favorite
4) tools/pens
5) Good markers
6) Electronic Cutter (Cricut, Wishblade or such) not for someone who's not into die cuts

pencil
good journaling pen/marker
scissors (especially micro tip)
adhesive (tape guns or splits sort)
adhesive glue or sticker machine (Xyron) for small
edged pieces
adhesive eraser
12" ruler (clear)
portable trimmer
cardstock (of course)

These are the really basics in for me - in no particular order of importance. I found examples of these items in the store.
