Hello,
I have a dilemma. At times I will scrap my husband, but he's so funny and doesn't like flowers when he is the only one in the picture. So what should I do to embellish the layout. I have done buttons or flourishes, but they are just not enough! Any suggestions?

Here's an example:

I tend to use more deep colored papers when I do DS's layouts. As for embellishments I like brads and eyelets and plain ribbon. Metal embellishments always give it a manly feel. Do you have any metal embellishments with a copper coloring. That would look good with the colors you are using.

Good luck!!

I do like the idea about the metal embellishments!

metal embellishments
big brads
stars
chipboard elements like trees & tree branches
circles
cut geometric shapes from pp
tags inked up & made grungy

Also, depending on your page theme, you could go with stamps of manly images like tire treads, tools, etc.

Here are some great "go-to" suggestions IMO:

Stars, buttons, brads(Making Memories) has some that look like screw heads, Tim Holtz has some great metal embellies such as sprockets and ball chain. Also, screen mesh, drywall tape (great stuff to work with by the way)...I've used clipart such as flames and wheels. Is he into music....guitars, guitar picks, skulls. Or perhaps, playing cards & dice....just to suggest a few!!!

Or perhaps he's into nature....deer, hunting, fishing, birds....

another good way to manify a layout is to use the the magic mesh stuff. I will use it on top of other embellishments or letters and designed paper to take some of the girl away.

My husband is a firefighter and motocross racer, so I am always looking for "guy" stuff.

I quite like it the way it is..but my style is more conservative anyway..it's a struggle for me to get all flowery and flourishy even though I love that look too. There are a lot of great suggestions here. Is he against bling...how about a few little sparkly things added on those flourishes?

There are some shapes out there that don't seem as feminine as flowers, like fleur-de-lis, triangles, circles, squares, etc.

Geometric shapes are also good for "manly" pages.

And you can make more elaborate photo mats. This is your chance to go wild and do triple mats.

And another good gender neutral motive/shape is the postage stamp edge.

And these stamps work great on "manly" pages.

I was gonna say metal too...if you don't have any however, and you have embossing stuff you can try this technique from you tube HERE

I struggle with guy layouts also,
so I'm loving these answers.

But once, on a page about a run that ds did with his police academy graduating class, I took some Prima flowers..put ink on my shoe, and stomped on them...

Actually, the new Prima essential tubes have flowers that don't look mega-girly..even some in a newsprint look. Think he'd be open for that?

These are all such great suggestions. I will definitely keep them in mind on my next "manly" layouts. Thank you
