How do you do your albums? Do you make albums just of holidays, everyday life or do you go by years. I'm not sure how to do my albums what would work the best. do them by years and have like everything that happen in that year or do them buy holidays and travel, ect. Please help and give me some pointers. Thank you so much lori

I actually do my albums by themes: wedding, anniversary, vacation, baby, Christmas. I choose the best photos, and scrap 10-12 pages for each album. I'm sure there are people who does it differently though.

I do themes, and years, but I'm trying to convert to a Library of Memories system which is more by theme than anything else.
For example, I have albums for my wedding, for my years as a Girl Scout, for travel, and then I have an album that has LOs just about family & friends.
My name is Chris, and I am an "artistic historian".
We're expecting out first little one in April 2010!

I've done both. Mostly I just do theme pages, birthdays, events. I don't have a long attention span, I lkie short, quick projects. I guess it's what you like best. There is no right or wrong way. It is therapy for me!

I do special albums for things like weddings or trips otherwise I make albums based on people. Each of my kids have their own albums that contain baby pics, family pics, their sports or music, school, holidays, and stuff like campfire and scouts. I add pics in order of occurence until it is full then I start them another. I made one for my husband of his life and one of his extended family. One for me and my childhood and one of my extended family. I have one that is a heritage album with both my husband and my ancestors. I made a family tree chart for each of us and added as much info as I could. I wish I had made three, one for each of our children. I have started one that I have my granddaughters in and will divide them eventually into their own albums. My youngest daughter was a competitive gymnast so she has tons of gym photos that got their own album. I think I will probably make my son a seperate sports album for his baseball, basketball, Tae Kwon DO, and bowling. I also have a family album which contains photos of us as a family. Sheeeh, seems like a lot!

I mostly organize my albums chronologically, but I occasionally do theme albums. I have a wedding album, a honeymoon album, etc., but most of my pages just go in a rough chronological order.

You can just do one on whatever you think is most special in your life. It doesn't have to be a certain thing. But, like all the others have said, you can do it by theme or year, whichever fits you best.
As for me, I'm about to start on a mixed scrapbook...whenever I can get my pics developed!

I generally do the theme albums. I have a Christmas album and trip albums and even a friend get together album. I also have one of DH's family get togethers and one of mine. And although I don't have children of my own, I understand that a lot of people who do, do an album for each child so that eventually the child will have his own book to keep.
I find that breaking up albums in these ways makes it easier on the viewer. For instance, I can show my DH's family only their get togethers instead of showing them LO's with my family's events also. That way all the LO's they look at pertain to them and they stay more intersted in the book.
When you are getting started though, you could simply buy a 3 ring or post bound and just slip your LO's into one album for protection and display and then move them into their permanent albums later as you decide which theme albums work for you. The only concern here would be that you stuck with the same size albums for all your LO's.

Wow! This is such a personal preference. Themes and events seem to be the way I scrap, etc, travel, wedding, children or grandchildren. The only ones I do chronologically are the ones with children or grandchildren.
Have fun no matter what you decide to do.

I'm totally new at this - I've only done 3 LOs but I know that at the beginning, the thought of starting at the beginning of my stash (timeline) was overwhelming to me.
The idea of themes overwhelmed me, too. I'm such a perfectionist that I couldn't get started without having this obsession that everything had to be perfect and in order.
I read something on this site, and it's a pretty common theme, that there is no perfect way to do it.
Anywhoo - all that to say that I just decided to take my most recent pictures and start scrapping the ones I wanted to scrap. And that's what I'm doing and having a ball. Who knows how I'll eventually scrap - but at least I'm scrapping now.
New to scrapping - and lovin' it!

I like to organize albums chronologically, but i also make theme albums like for birthdays, family holidays, recently my nephew was born and i had maximum fun while making it. The best album i have ever made is of the time when whole of my family went out together for a week ( because everybody gave their inputs, so i was able to delete all the shortcomings).

If I have an event that I want to do a whole scrapbook for - I'll work on that.
I generally scrap the moment, whatever I feel like. Whether it's a vacation or a Holiday, I then put them into appropriate albums. Also, I don't worry if a themed book looks the same - after all we change each year why shouldn't our pages.

This is so great! I always wanted to do a heritage album. I've been working on my genealogy, but didn't get a chance to collect photos for that yet. It will be nice to do an album.

I totally agree with you. My Mother-In-Law scraps whatever photos she feels like it. And she keeps them separated in page protectors. Later on she puts the pages together to make albums.

I prefer to create albums theme wise like by holidays, children, household events and functions and then sort a group of photos accordingly in that particular album. It creates unique identity.
