Kozy Scraps

DD's school pictures came back a couple of weeks ago and I am having the hardest time finding what would be right for the photo. Looked at all the papers in the stores here and everything is to busy for the busy background. I wanted to do the rock star type of theme, but everything is either the wrong color or too busy. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Maybe just use cardstock and do some fun rocker style techniques? You could do paint splatters, use stars, black lace, gems etc.

I was going to suggest using plain cardstock as the background and then some fun patterned paper somewhere on the layout. That way, it wouldn't look so busy.

I think a solid pc of cardstock then mat the pic in black. I've seen a stamp with a brick pattern...maybe use some white ink and put just a little part of the brick pattern in a few spots on the cardstock. Maybe in a corner and peeking out from the pic. I'm not the most creative but that's what comes to my mind!!!

LOL!!! Not exactly school pics.. but definitely fits the criteria.
I splotched the red cardstock with some silver ink.

Maybe kraft paper with some brightly-colored embellishments that pick up on the background of the photo, what your child is wearing in it. There was a nice series of los in Creating Keepsakes this month with kraft paper/bright embellishments--the neutral background tones down any bright colors used in small pops on the rest of the page. I tried one with kraft paper and a fluorescent Sharpie paint marker to "scribble" a mat for my photo and it looked pretty cool! (It was a pretty personal lo so I didn't post it.)

What about using Appleton Collection from Scenic Route? See the products below (all on clearance)

I did one layout with it:
