I live south of Redmond. This is a beautiful area...surrounded by two magestic mountain ranges (good for skiing/snowboarding), lots of lakes for water play and fabulous parks everywhere (for families). Hiking, biking are wonderful here also. It's only a 4 hour drive to the Pacific Ocean beaches.

Downside is we have weeks on end (month after month) of gray skies/no sunshine at all. Last winter we went 5 weeks without seeing the sunshine. I tell you; even these Pac NW people (hubby and me) were depressed. Our truly warm summer months are short: August being the best and hottest and usually September is nice. Plan a picnic in July and who knows. You learn to adapt to doing things in rain.

I'm sure you've been on the web by now to research the Seattle area.

Best wishes.

Redmond and Kirkland are nice areas. Some parts of Bellevue are nice to live. I would suggest renting a house more then an apartment. Too many people for my taste living in an apartment. Iassaquah is a nice town also.
