Hi everyone!! Jarvae, good to hear from you, its been a while.

Our Christmas lights, house decor n tree are all up, super early this year, like Dec 4th! And you know what? It feels good! Whew, no more racing last minute to do stuff!! The earlier the better, I say! I HIGHLY recommend early decorating, but don't think I could ever go as early as the day after Thanksgiving, like a lot of people I know!! The next two 1/2 weeks will be super busy for me at work (Kohl's) so I need all my free time to bake my DOZENS of Christmas cookies for gifts n gorging!!

I am working on a cute Advent calendar (Yeah, I know its the 9th!) using scrap paper, a metal cookie sheet and Christmas themed erasers with magnet strip glued on!! Super fast n my kid will think I am amazing!!

Speaking of kid, Juanie has been walking around the house saying "Ho ho ho and a bottle of Rum!" Either our Santa is a drunk, or my 4 yr old has been hanging out with cheap women in seedy bars again!

oh, for sure! The phrase and date have already gone into my notes for pages!! Of course, we do like pirates, a lot. His first bday party was a pirate party (ck out my album in the Gallery) n we have a few childrens books on pirates...I'm not surprised he got confused!! He says funny stuff all the time. I told him to clean his toys from the living room floor or I would throw them out, he told me he couldn't, his batteries were dead! When his brand new bicycle bell broke, he told Grandma to take it back to China! That one was straight from his grandfather's mouth! He's a riot!!

When I told my 4 year old to eat all his dinner, children were starving in INdia he looked me in the eye and said, "Name one."

So much for that bluff.

When I sent him to his room when he was 7 or 8 and told him not to come out until it was cleanned, he came out a few minutes later. I asked him if his room was clean yet and he said, "Oh, you were serious about that?"

And then when he was 4 we were visiting an elderly couple from the church. They could walk but not well - and were not physically able to take care of their home very well but did the best we could. My oldest was trying so hard to be nice and polite Christian. He proudly announced, "Hey mom, why don't we go home and get our vacuum cleaner and lend it to them. I don't think they have one."

Then on the church bus on Sunday morning, "Hey mom - Jacks or better to open. You forgot to ante again." He was 3 1/2 and I had walked to the front of the bus to talk to friends. Everyone on the bus heard him.

Out of the mouth of babes.

Good Morning . Rainy and dreary here again today. Finally put up my big christmas tree and I am SOOOOOO glad. I enjoyed it so much last night. I put up a much smaller tree and thought it would do it for me. But, that was not to be.Want to get that HOHOHO spirit. I would love to be in Florida at a beach but I am having a hard time getting in that spirit and I know it would make it harder for me.

Today is the first day of Hanukkah, and we're going to visit my brother's family today to celebrate. The tradition is to give "Hanukkah Gelt" to the children. "Gelt" means money in Yiddish.

Talk about "socking away your money." I found some cute little socks at 99 cents each at AC Moore, made into little purses with a click closure and key chain attached to the top. I bought 3 of them to give to my grandneices and nephew as token gifts. I placed 18 cents inside each purse and wrapped them up as "Hanukkah Gelt" -- 18 stands for "Chai" in Hebrew, meaning "Life." I made tags for each gift using various Spellbinder labels. (My own grandchildren are 3000 miles away.)

Note that Hanukkah is a relatively minor holiday, based on an ancient historical event, not religious. It was originally not a gift-giving occasion except for giving "gelt" (in small change) to children. It was elevated in importance in recent years in order to compete with Christmas, which is a really major holiday. All we do at home is light the menorah each night for 8 nights. Children spin the dreidel to play games, and traditional latkes (fried in oil) are served, representing the oil that lasted for 8 days to light the temple, when only a small amount was available. Hence, a miracle took place, and it is referred to as a "Festival of Lights."

Wishing everyone a happy holiday, no matter which one you celebrate.

Thank you for the education on Hanukkah - very interesting. I'm ashamed to say I know very little about Hanukkah and did not realize it was based on a historcial rather than religious event. I should know more since I have so many Jewish friends, it would be nice to know about their faith.

I remember as a teenager our youth group taught us that we should respect and learn about other religions. We didn't have to believe everything they did, but we should understand and respect and we visited churches and temples of other faiths. I remember as a teenager when we went to Synagogue one Saturday night. I loved it. The Rabbi knew were were Southern Baptist kids but spent a lot of time explaining things to us - made us feel very welcomed.

And it helped me to understand the faith of my Jewish friends much better.

In my opinion Christmas has gotten out of hand with all the commercialism and now decorations in the stores before the Halloween decorations are off the shelves.

Happy Hanukkah!! I just read the most touching Hanukah story to my son, except that he had to wipe the tears from my eyes...It's a children's book we got from our library, called "The Tie Man's Miracle, A Chanukah Tale" by Steven Schnur. Hanukkah or Chanukah?? which is correct? IDK...I digress...the story is about a man who comes to the house the last night of C/Hanukah to sell his ties, the family invites him to light the candles and have dinner with them. He says he has no more family, they were lost in the war. All are sad, but to lighten the now dour mood he tells them in his village, they said if all 9 candles went out at the same time the smoke would carry your wishes all the way to Heaven and God would grant them. Well, that night the young boy watches all 9 candles go out and wishes the tie man would get his family back...the tie man is never seen again.

So beautiful, I bawled all the way through reading it, my poor son was to little to understand the nuances. I really reccomend the book, but it is definitely not a little childrens book!

We are not Jewish, but I want him to have an understanding of other religions and cultures, to have empathy and kindness for everyone. While watching the Jim Carrey The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, we discussed the importance of not making fun of people and how it hurts their feelings. I am not the best mom out there, but I try!!

Juansmom: I actually prefer the "Chanukah" spelling. The "Ch" is not the same as in "Charlie" but a gutteral sound, as if clearing your throat. There's no such sound in English. Americans would pronounce it as if it were an "H" so that's how it came to be spelled that way.

Just got back from my brother's house. Each child lit his or her own menorah. We all had a lovely time.

Good grief, I had about 3 pages to catch up on! My weekend was obviously busy - too busy to check in on my peeps here, at least ...

Last week was my dog treat making week (got done with all but two batches that I'll save for later), and this week will be busy making people treats. We took Junior yesterday to a Santa Paws fundraiser for Red Dirt Boxer Rescue, where we adopted him from. I took a huge gift bag full of fleece blankets, treats and toys that I've been gathering for a few months, plus a huge tin of homemade dog treats. I made them a neat card with a die cut of a boxer, and enclosed a Walmart gift card so they could buy food or cleaning supplies or whatever they need. They were so appreciative and thankful, and it made my heart so happy to be able to help! I wish Junior had acted better, though. He's great with people, but has started getting into staring contests with dogs and then the growling & barking starts. It's embarrasing! I hate having a kiddo act up in the store, LOL!! We took Gracie with us too, and she looked adorable in her new pink argyle sweater, and matching pink collar and leash, LOL! She still has a lot of anxiety and barked at several people and dogs. She's getting a lot better though, and did well considering her background. It was a nice time.

This week I'm having an Arbonne party (Gracie's foster mom needed to fill her quota for the month, so I reluctantly agreed - we'll see how it goes), my regular nail appointment, treat making, work party on Friday night and family party on Saturday night. Sunday we'll have to play catch up on the UFC fights we'll be missing on both Friday and Saturday nights. And all I can think about it when I'm going to fit in some time to work on my December Daily?!?!?

Darla - I hope you're happy with the FRIGID cold this morning!! LOL I'm hoping this will be it for the super cold weather for awhile ... whatever happened to global warming?

Have a GREAT day, everyone!!

Oh ... now we have something planned for Sunday at lunchtime ... just awesome! I just keep thinking that the more things we are doing, the more I'll have for my December Daily! Always gotta have a silver lining ... LOL

Okay, everyone- I went crazy up in here then disappeared for three days. What a busy weekend. With the show opening last Friday night (whole weekend was sold out and it was a seating nightmare- luckily for the new house manager, I was there every night to help. unlucky for me) I was running around all weekend.

AND, Darla: I never made it to Basket Market and I never finished my swap. But Maura posted y'day (I'm sure you saw) that they extended the deadline til this Saturday. And I don't know how you can turn down a banner! I love making them. I just don't want to own one. haha

And yes, I remembered- you said you werent doing it (actually, when I asked if you were going to do the swap, I think you just acted like you didnt hear me and turned your head and starting talking about dragonflies or something with JayJay). I dont think anyone talked me into it- I was just hyper that morning.

So, my craft area is demolished and I still don't have anything glued down on my banners. But there's glitter everywhere. Cuz it's Christmas.

Speaking of Hanukkah- I almost burned the street down with my menorah. A few years back, Holly bought a truckload of cases of menorah candles at the Pottery Barn clearance sale. And to make a long story short, loose candles and scrapbook paper don't mix.

Okay. Back to trying to do some work between breaks from cruising Pinterest.

-k

Hey, y'all! After a tremendously crazy day, I'm here, finally home and waiting on dinner to heat up in the oven.
Ms Tanya, I am loving this weather!!! Love love loving it! Shall I say that again? LOL! I so adore cold weather and we have so little of it, I have to savor it when it makes it's rare appearance.
Korybean, you're so funny! I don't recall you asking me about the swap, but if I had heard you, I probably would have pretended I didn't hear, I knew I wouldn't have time to get it done and for some reason, I am not that enamored with banners. I know I should be, but I can't seem to get on board. Go figure. I think I'm going to miss Demo Day this Saturday , I am probably going to be in Tulsa. I'm really bummed to miss it but on the up side, there's a nice scrapbook store in Tulsa and I haven't been to it yet so it's uncharted territory, lol. Are you sad now that JayJay is gone? I miss him and I only saw him twice. He is such a sweet guy, I would have liked to spend more time with him.
Henri Jean, great news about Joe! What a great gift right here before Christmas. Keep us posted on when surgery will be, and all the other details like how he's doing, how y'all are holding up, etc.
Hope everyone else is doing well, will be back to chat more later but timer is beeping so dinner is ready. I'm such a gourmet chef, LOL!!!
