I'm planning on making a dinosaur cake for my son's birthday soon. I'm googling now, but if anyone has made an EASY dinosaur cake, I'd love to hear how! I don't have a cake mold, but I'd consider getting one if I had to. If all else fails, I'll make a cake and just put toy dinosaurs on it. I'm not an expert baker/cake decorator, and would really love to avoid fondant too. Thanks!

Sarah, A's has dino cake molds....but honestly, for the first cake, I'dput toys on it, and give him a small one to eat/smash up. The decor could be dino.....I have the Dino cart if you need anything cut. Let me know.

Another easy thing to do is use cupcakes...arrange them in the shape of a dino, decorate/ice the whole thing. No cutting either, just hand out the cupcakes!

This site has a lot of great dino stuff.....

Thanks! I just did order a bunch of dino plates/decor and stuff from another site. And he's definitely getting a small one to smash up. In fact, he's probably getting two small ones. His party is the day after his birthday, and he tends not to eat/touch new foods the first time he sees them, so I think we're going to do a smash cake/cupcake on his actual birthday, and then another one the day after for his party.

I ordered a cake from our local bakery for our son's 3rd birthday. I wanted it plain and told them I wanted "sand" colored icing as I already had the dino toys to decorate it.

Well, the morning of his birthday rolled around and when I went to pick up that cake it was mustard yellow.

I didn't have time to have another one made, so I bought a package of Oreos and crumbled them on top of the cake. Topped it with a volcano and a couple of dinosaurs and a Happy Birthday banner I made using bamboo skewers.

It was wicked cute, I wish I could find a pic.

I agree with Teresa. Plain cake, and top with plastic dino toys.

do you have access to a cricut? you cut have that cut out a large shape and use that as a template for your cake. i did that with an Elmo.

That's a good idea too. I have a Silhouette, so I could do the same thing there.

Love it!

I was just thinking about DS's Big Bucket o' Dinosaurs and how many of those would work for cake toys.

Last year I made an army cake - 9 x 13 cake decorated with DS's army figurines.

Thanks for all of the ideas! I decided to make the cake - funfetti cake with blue vanilla funfetti frosting. And then I'm putting the cute dinosaur bath toy squirters (that came with the dino decor I bought) on top. I'm also using a large muffin tin to make a big smash cupcake for Nate. He actually gets two - one for his birthday, and one for his party the next day.

I better get going on the baking - birthday is tomorrow!!

I was planning to make a ladybug cake for Jolene's birthday but now it looks like that won't be happening.

Can you guys get her later and still have the cake/party?? Or even join "them" so you can celebrate too?? That's just wrong.

They live too far away for our family and friends to join them. It's 5 hours. The issue is he won't let her come here.

Oh wow, I didn't realize it was 5 hours. I know how much you guys wanted her there for her birthday.
