Just got back from taking Lara for her chemo. Her hemoglobin is staying up...was 10.2 three weeks ago and 10.1 today. No more decrease than that is very good during chemo.

Cheryl, such a tragedy for an innocent child!

Betsey, without getting on my soapbox, I blame a lot of the gun violence on movies and violent video games. The sacredness of life is no longer valued in our society.

Teia, sorry I was on the road before you offered coffee this AM! I take mine black so all I needed was a cup!

Tish. your layout of Abbi is so cute! Looking forward to seeing those snow pictures.

Our church services were not cancelled yesterday but the very strong thunderstorms kept all but a few at home. Even the music leader who never misses was out with bronchitis.

Checking back to see if I missed anything, and of course, I did! So glad to hear Lara's hemoglobin is staying where they want. That must be very reassuring to all of you.

It is a mystery to me the way the different chemo infusions affect people differently! I do know different treatments are used depending on the type of cancer one has.

Surprisingly my hemoglobin is at 13.5 which is good, and yet my white blood count is so low! 1.2! I guess I will have to have faith that all will be well and my oncologist knows what she is doing!!!!!!!

How much longer will Lara be having chemo?

Thank you for your nice comments on my layouts. i will try to post some snow pictures today. I actually tried yesterday, but
They would not upload!

Allen was out shoveling today, and came in with a bad backache. i wish he wouldn't strain himself like this. Our driveway does get plowed, but he still feels he has to shovel the heavy snow that accumulates on the steps and in front of the garage. I worry so about him.

Jo, thank you for the heads up on the games to play on my Ipad! Sometimes I like to play them before I go to sleep at night!

It sounds like Greyden loves being outside!that is great! Healthy outdoor fun.

This is so very sad cheryl for everyone involved. The man will have to live with this all his life.

I guess we shouldn't judge without knowing the whole story. My only problem is why did he have a loaded gun in the house?

Cathe, Max does not like wearing his coat! He often takes his shirt off when he comes in the house! It is not summer here!

Tish, my 10 year old dgs often runs around the house without a shirt on as well! He sleeps in pajama pants but no shirt! He has done that for a long time...his bedroom is in the basement and it is pretty cool down there. I freeze down there!! He seems to be comfortable while I am cold so I guess...maybe it's an age thing/boy thing! lol Anyway...you sure made me smile!

Cheryl...I agree with Tish in that I shouldn't have judged without knowing the full story. Sorry about that! It made me think of another instance when that happens....news reports! We often don't get the full story..or at least not both sides of a story..and yet we judge and are even expected to judge! just thinking out loud here!

I gave you the wrong name on the frog game..it is called Pocket Frogs. All of the ones I play are free ones....I don't shell out any money for games for me to play!!

Yes, Greyden LOVES to be outdoors. He would spend hours outside each day if he could. He has learned how to open the yard gates so we have to be sure someone is out with him all the time...and sometimes that just isn't possible...so he doesn't get to go out as much as he would like to! For that reason I will be glad when we get warmer weather and then I won't mind so much being out with him! Plus I'll have something to do while he is playing!

Tish, Lara has two more treatments (March 4th and 25th). The chemo does affect everyone differently as far as side effects and esp. when it is a different form of cancer and medication. Lara's toenails are turning yellow and not growing! With breast cancer treatments the nails and hair usually are affected. That is why breast cancer patients lose their hair while some other cancer patients don't.

Tish - I guess most people I know have guns in their house. We have a handgun in dh's sock drawer the little clip that goes in it lays right beside it. The two rifles that are hunting guns are in the back of dh's closet and they are not loaded. He hasn't hunted in years. This is Kentucky and most people own guns and hunt. I grew up around guns and know how to respect them and know they are not toys. My dad and uncles all hunted and now my son and nephews hunt.

We do not have any guns in our house. We have a gun safe in the garage that has a rifle in it that is really old and don't think we have any ammo for it. It is full of important paperwork.

I am going to start asking people I know if they have guns in their house. Just an informal poll for my own curiousity.

Oh Cheryl, trust me, I know what you are saying. We have guns in this house alsd! Allen grew up hunting and therefore guns. He knows how to use and respect them.

In fact the other night, he thought someone had been in our driveway, or was still out there fooling around our truck because the dome light was on. He woke me up and said, have you been anywhere in the truck today? I said no why, and he said the dome light was on in the truck when he looked out the window. (this was the day he had taken the car and taken a friend to the casino).

He proceeds to get dressed, grabs his shot gun, plus some amo and goes out. Meanwhile I lie in bed very uneasy and decided if I heard anything I would dial 911. I even got brave, got up and looked out the window once to make sure he was ok.

To make a long story short, all was well, and he had accidentally left the truck door ajar, therefore the dome light was on all day but wasn't noticed until after dark.

When he came in and got back in bed, I said, did you unload the gun, and he said OF COURSE!

We have had many many break in's in our area and it is starting to get rather scary. Of course I wouldn't have the slightest idea on how to load a gun and fire it!

I am not a gun person, but am comfortable with the guns we have because I do know Allen and my family has grown up to respect them and they are never where the children can reach or access.

I know, Ann...I still have hair! It is thinner though, but something in this process really affected my skin! The bad excema has gone from my hands, but now they look like they are peeling. I am glad she has just two more treatments to go.

Char, guns really make me cringe. Probably because we didn't have them when I was growing up. I married into a hunting family and to country boy! Hunting is a big sport around here. The only one of my boys that still hunts is John when he has time. Allen doesn't even hunt anymore.

I have all the respect in the world for those that are responsible and use them when appropriate.

We have lots of guns.... been raised around them and so have my kids. We have 6 rifles, hardly any ammo for them.. one is a Civil war rifle.... no hand guns though that work. We have one in a holder that is missing its firing pistel so its a dead door.

I guess Tish, he must have the same theory my sil has, if the gun is locked up and not loaded then what good is it if someone breaks in my house and is threatening my wife and kids????? I do see his point, but I just don't know the answer. And Tish you are right.......we should not judge without knowing the whole story, however, like you, I am not sure having a loaded gun in a house with children is very wise. Obviously they know where it is, and while the child was only three, my thinking is that loaded guns around children just are inviting an accident. I am not against guns, however, I know how to shoot everything including an AK47 assault rifle.....however, I personally no longer own a gun. I did not carry agun in my truck all those years being on the road by myself, but I did carry a cell phone. I am not uncomfortable around guns, but when my children were young, the only guns in the house were hunting rifles and there was no ammo in the house. It was not a big deal in those days......many, many men went hunting especially in Maryland. However, times have changed and therefore having guns around children is just a real problem for many reasons. Kids do not always associate real death with shooting a gun.....at someone. All the shows and movies and video games, are all about shooting etc......we have made it seem like a game......and until they actually see what a gun can do, by then it is too late. I am so very sorry for all that family involved in this terrible shooting. No matter what any of us think about guns, a childs death is still the very worst thing that can happen and I know we all feel that pain. I hope they can somehow get through this and live a normal life in the future. Just so very very sad! I think about those families in Connecticutt every day....maybe its the children at school that remind me....but I can't imagine what that is like.......a terrible tragedy.....terrible!

Years ago when son was young I did that of the homes he went to play at. A cop neighbor of ours told me to do it and if they do to find out where it is locked up. He showed me what he did with his service revolver when he got home. He had a box screwed into the hall closet shelf that closed with a sturdy key lock. I think I talked to 5 homes and none had a gun (32 years ago)...
