Hello everyone! I recently starting scrapping and came across a problem. All the pictures that I have are on one big wall across my bedroom. Every time I print pictures, they go on the wall. I don't want to spend any extra money on buying double copies, but if I take the pictures down for scrap booking, the wall will be empty. I can't post the layouts I make back on the wall because every journaling I do has something personal in it, and I don't want to share it with many people. So, my question is- how can I balance this? If I take the pictures down, how should I fill the empty space? My souvenirs and cards/other wall decorations are around my room already.

I'm not sure why you don't want to spend the money duplicating the pictures, since photo printing can be pretty cheap. How much would it cost to duplicate the pictures? I mean, wouldn't you spend that much, if not more, finding replacement artwork or wall decorations?
Or, you could do the LOs and use hidden journaling, so it's not up on the wall where everyone can see it. Journal on the back of the LO, in pockets, etc. Again, though, wouldn't you then have to spend money to buy frames to put them in? I'd just check into the cost of duplicating the pics before going to that effort, but that's just me.
Welcome to sb.com and I hope someone has an answer that works for you!

My guess is that as soon as you take the photos off the wall and scrap them, you will find new photos to fill the empty space on your wall. Good luck and have fun!

I agree w/ the previous posters...if you take lots of pictures, & it sounds like you do, then you'll want to display them on your wall until you scrap them. You'd have a revolving-picture wall. But, if you're like me, you'll find that you want various sizes when you begin scrapping your lo, or you might want a photo cropped/enlarged so you can see a portion of it better, so then you end out getting new prints of the new size or crop. I keep thinking I'll clean out my boxes of pictures, but I end out re-printing most every photo I use, either for sizing or editing, such as brightening.

Even though photo printing is cheap, it adds up, because I take many pictures. I think what I'll do is divide the pictures between scrapbooking and my wall, that way I can get what I need done, while making sure the space is filled.
I like the idea of journaling inside pockets. Thank you!

Thank you! I agree, because sometimes it just takes to much work to find a picture. Being the lazy self, it may be easier to just re-print them.

If there's journaling you want to hide but still want to share the layout here just take a scrap piece of paper and lay that over your journaling area and then take a pic of the layout.
If you have a printer with a scanner you can scan just those photos your wanting to scrapbook and reprint those. I get my ink on ebay for less than $10 so printing photos out doesn't cost so much.

I make lots of my pages before I even have the photos. Pick your favorites and start to make the pages. When you are ready to put them on the pages, they will be done.

You really have alot of options. I have my most recent layouts on my wall displayed on 2 curtain hangers and my remaining 3 walls have other diy stuff on them. When I create new layouts, the ones on the wall go in their albums to be replaced by the new ones so I can admire them for a while before they go in their albums, and so on.
I have a photo printer at home I use when I can't wait(thanks for the ebay tip Cindicki, I'll need to look into that). I wait for sales on photo paper, like 2 for 1, etc, and if I can wait or I'm printing more than just a few shots, I use a cheapo online photo service once I have my photos uploaded. Once you join up with one you often get deals like 30 free prints for instance, so all you're paying for is the shipping.

How do you make a LO without having the pictures printed? I would love to be able to do that!

I find a LO I like, or I just start playing with paper. I make something that has squares cut of the sizes of pics I can use. I just use those shapes and pretend they are my pics. I have had vacation albums half finished before we go. I make a list of pages that I have finished and keep them in my purse. I make sure that I have horiozntal and diagonal pics taken to fit the premade layouts. My boys have been victims to this nonsense and make cracks about which way I should be taking my pictures for the premade layouts. I also buy them clothes that match the colors of paper I love the most. Sad, but it works for me. I have about 200 or more premade layouts that are just waiting for pics. Sometimes I make or buy new embellishments to go with the papers.

OK...this is going to sound more complicated than it really is~
I have pics, but not necessarily in the size I'm going to use. This is one reason I'm a hybrid scrapper. I don't plan my lo on my paper. I plan it in my graphics program.
I open a 12x12 "paper", then copy and paste the pics I think I might want to use on that page, or usually I'm thinking a two-page lo that I want to co-ordinate with each other. After I paste all of the pics for those 2 pages on my 12x12 virtual paper, I begin moving them around on the page. Gradually I get an idea of what I want to do, what/where I want to journal, then think about embellies/misting, etc. I might want to do. The pics that don't fit on that page will either go on the opposing page, go on another page, or not be included in this album.
Once I figure out my tentative plan, I figure out what sizes I need for the pics. Some I might crop and enlarge so the main focus stands out better. I keep playing around with sizing—it's easy to do in the graphics program, then when everything fits the way I want it to, I do any editing for brightening/focusing, etc., then I print (or have printed) the pics I want, in the sizes I want.
My design might change some once I have the re-sized pics, but I know pretty much what my plan is, so then I can figure out misting, borders, mats, journaling, and whatever else it takes to finish the page.
It sounds more complicated than it is. When I try to do it all the paper-method, I end out wishing I had misted or something, but then it's too late because I already have pics matted or various things glued down. If I'm planning to use a pp that I want to be sure parts of it show, like a flower or something, I make a square or circle blocking off the space on my virtual paper so I know to keep that part clear. The program's ruler/grid lines are a real help in sizing.
Maybe I change my mind too much, but it's easier & cheaper to virtually change my mind than it is to do it with real paper and glue.
