I say don't worry about it.
My first mini was just 12x12 card-stock cut into 6x6 quarters, punched and held together with rings. They aren't even back-to-back, I just glued stuff onto each side of the card-stock. That was 3 years ago and after a lot of handling, it hasn't warped too badly, and most things are still stuck.
I like how everything is touchable because it isn't in pockets. I like the dimension. And if it isn't perfectly flat then that shows it is loved.
Enjoy doing what you're doing. View it as a learning curve - if anything doesn't work with this mini, do it differently next time. Don't let the "rules" hold you back. There are very few real rules in scrap-booking!
