I have been in the market for both a cutting and an embossing machine. But I just don't know which to choose from.

I want to emboss my handmade Christmas Cards this year...I'm overwhelmed by so many different embossing machines. Please help!!!! Suggestions? I want something sturdy and that I can eventually use for scrapbook pages (12" X 12").

I would also like to take a look at cutting machines...what are the pros and cons of each?

Thanks!!!!

This gets asked at least 2 times each week - lots of folks are venturing into machines! Here are a few of those recent topics.

Long story short, it depends on a lot of factors. What kinds of dies do you want to be able to cut? Do you want to cut and emboss with the SAME machine or do you want different machines? Do you want an electronic machine that uses cartridges that you buy separately? An electronic machine that uses files? A manual machine? An electric machine that cuts dies?

Do you mean that you want to cut and emboss 12x12 pages or add die cuts and embossing to 12x12 pages? Very few machines will handle 12x12 right now and they're pretty pricey.

Wow, there is so much to consider. A combo die cut/embossing machine sounds great.

Thanks for the links, I will have to check them out.

I just want a machine that will last a while and perhaps be able to use dies and embossing folders from other manufacturers. Something that will also cut fabric and vinyl.

Big shot and the big shot pro will handle all the materials you want to cut. The big shot pro is the only one on the market that I know of that will do 12X12 stuff.
I have the pro, and I do like it. But it is heavy and big, and expensive. But once again, I am glad I bought it!
I use my big shot in almost every project I do!!! Because it is light and easy, I use it more. But I do love both of them!

I bought a Cuttlebug, mostly because it was the least pricey of all the hand-crank machines. While I like it, I would have liked the ability to cut larger dies n use larger embossing folders. Go for a larger Big Kick/Shot. You won't be sorry.

No, the Big Shot Pro will, but not the regular Big Shot.

What do you mean by "it won't take any size dies"?

I'm new and just preordered the Boss Kut Gazelle - from all I read, I think it will do everything I'll need now and in the future. I'm excited to try it out.

Anyway, I can't attest to it yet, but I can say that there are some really good equipment reviews out there.

I have the Spellbinders Grand Callibur machine and I love it! So many dies to choose from that are compatible and it cuts intricate dies beautifully. You can also die cut fabric, chip board and lots of other products. It also accepts up to A4 which is a bonus.

The regular Big Shot does not do 12X12, but the big shot pro does.
