I was in Office Max today making a xerox of a pic to transfer onto canvas ... and I found a display with washi tape made by 3M! Only a few patterns so I only bought one, but worth a look

Wow, the press release says it was only launched about a week and a half ago! 17 colors and 36 patterns! I don't do a lot of washi, but that's neat. I see they also launched a line of patterned masking tape - just this week I used a patterned masking tape that Making Memories made a few years ago, and really liked it - I'll be watching for the 3M masking tapes too!

And you know what, you can't actually buy it from 3M's website, so I'm going to link to the PDF showcasing their entire new Expressions line that includes the washi tape (it's on pages 8 and 9 of the PDF): 3M Expressions PDF

I love the Travel, Alphabet Soup, Kaleidoscope, Subway Map, Bikes, Quatrefoil Sunset, and Airplane! Not really loving any of the masking tapes, but DANG I need that Butterflies shipping tape!

Oooh, thanks for the link! Now I have to go looking for the comic book wham-pow-zap tape And the polka-dot shipping tape is certainly fun.

A lot of their other types of tape are fun too. Love the fancy packing tape.

Washi heaven...A's. I went there a couple of weeks ago for the first time in several months and there is washi everywhere. 3 full racks and then scattered throughout the store and with almost every collection. I restrained myself and only bought 6 rolls. I wanted many many more.

Is it actually Washi tape, or is it the masking tape? I've stayed away from the masking tape, just because I'm not sure if it works the same as regular Washi tape. (Not that I NEED any more Washi tape!)

They have both. Their new Expressions line contains patterned regular tape, washi tape, masking tape, and packing tape.

I'm curious. How do you define Washi tape? I'm not sure exactly what it is.

3M makes both the masking and Washi tape!

Washi tape is an adhesive backed paper tape. It is generally quite thin (you can easily tear it), with some transparency to it, so you can see through it. You can search for it even here in the store and get some ideas of the patterns it comes in (thousands!), or out on the Etsy site.

I bought the bikes and superhero tape at Targets. Anything I buy at Target doesn't count as a scrapping purchase.

Thanks, Dwelch! I think the paper-based part is what I didn't get. I've seen it online, but never understood what made it different.
