Description: This scary looking (but harmless) fellow visited us the other day. Isn't he great?! He climbed up the ranchslider leading in to the lounge and at one point came in to the lounge and disappeared under one of the armchairs to avoid being eaten by my cat. NZ wetas are protected by law so you are not allowed to harm them. We put him back outside and kept the cat inside until he'd gone. The kids thought he was fascinating. :) I think this one is a tree weta. We have giant wetas, cave wetas, tree wetas and ground wetas.
