Your layout brings tears to my eyes. I pray daily for our servicemen and the family left behind. My sil: a 1st Lt. in the Army leaves in June for Afganistan. They have no children so will be 'easier' for my daughter. Your layout is fabulous. hugs to you and family.
I understand your your emotions completely.......You are in my prayers as well my friend. I came across this poem the other day and it struck a chord deep within me......"At night when I crawl into bed,
My lonely pillow 'neath my head,
I close my eyes and say a prayer.
"God keep him safe way over there,
And make me strong so I won't cry.
It's kinda hard to be alone and
teach the kids when they're half grown,
without the strength of a father's hand
to guide them in this troubled land.
So I'll need a little help from you,
to let me know what I should do.
And God please will you let him know,
How much we love and miss him so.
And then I feel across the bed,
To where he used to lay his head,
and I close my eyes so very tight,
so I won't cry again tonight,
and whisper to the evening air,
"Good night my darling way over there." ~ Un known.
I love the sentiment of this LO and the dedication you all have to family and to God. This is an AWESOME tribute to all of our boys in the military service of our country.
I love this LO... it is so full of emotion. You have done a wonderful job. I feel your pain as I have a brother over there and many of my cousins have done deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is a beautiful tribute!
I can't even see the page to read it-through the tears. My heart goes out to you all-it is not going to be easy, but God knows what he is doing!! God bless!!
Thank you for your informative and hearfelt journaling. My nephew returned home safely from a one year deployment to Iraq. I pray the same for your son and for all our brave troops. I'm also praying peace for you, your DIL and those precious babies! ((Hugs))
What a wonderful page. I love the tree with the ribbon tied around the trunk. I wish your son a safe return home to you and his family and I thank him for his service to our country!
I was born into a military family and I live on a military base today. But this week is hard. My son left for a one year tour of duty in Afghanistan this week.
Since taking office in January, President Barack Obama has ordered an additional 21,000 U.S. troops to be deployed to Afghanistan, which will bring the full U.S. deployment there to a total of 60,000 troops, joining 39,000 coalition troops from 43 countries.
I'm very proud of my son, but I think of all the wives and young children who are also making sacrifices. Did you know there are 600,000 American children under the age of 5 who are living with a parent deployed in war? For many of these children, their lives will be changed forever.
I'm every bit as proud of my daughter-in-law and my two tiny grandsons for the sacrifices they must make. It's a sad truth that those who wait, also serve. The boys had such a hard time saying goodbye and on the way home, Gregory asked his mom, 'who will keep us safe now?' I ache for them tonight as they all look at the empty spot at the dinner table. The evenings must be the hardest time of the day.
My daughter-in-law is going to have to go through so many changes and hardships this year all by herself - in addition to experiencing the stress of sudden separation, constant worry about her husband's safety, and dealing with the chores of single parenthood. And I know the children, as young as they are, are asked to be brave. There must be so much they don't truly understand. I wish I was closer to hug them all. It is hard being half a world away from my loved ones.
