Wow. What a story. So glad y'all were home to help her since nobody else was/answered their door that night. Isn't it amazing how God protects us even in the midst of terrible accidents like this...? It certainly was no accident that she was the only 1 in that truck that night.
wow, ava is lucky she stumbled on to you and your husband.. a good deed on your part, sometimes life provides us with wonderful opportunities for service.
I don't see anything ugly here, not even an ugly embellishment. The paper and colors are very pretty and of course, everything you touch is beautiful. Your story brought a tear or two to my eye. That was very nice of her and her father to come back to your house and thank you and your husband for helping her out.
Wow, what a story! One thing about it, your life is never never dull, (smile)! And to top it off, the pics worked perfectly with your uglies. How ironic is that? And yes, the embellie was meant to go here. Nicely done, girl!
Wow, you weren't kidding. It is so scary to answer the door, but you can't leave someone out on the porch like that. That was very brave of you, but wouldn't expect anything else. We had a flip in front of our house last summer and it's scary anytime, but esp when you are the one calling 911.
Growing up we lived at the top of a big S curve and were woken many, many times in the middle of the night for the same thing! So glad that she was alright and didn't have her baby with her! you are right the papers work out perfectly with those pics! Beautiful page and perfect quote!
Wow. What an amazing story. Thanks heavens for the relatively happy ending. You did a great job with the layout. I never would have guessed these were "Ugly Papers"!
Oh my gosh - what a story - I can't believe that people didn't open their door - the accident sounds horrific and God must have been with her - it's hard to believe that she survived. It's wonderful that you were there to help her when she needed help so badly. I can't imagine what it would be like to have my car flip several times and then walk down a country road bleeding and in shock with no one there to help me. Both you and you husband are true heroes. God bless you for being there for her and helping her.
WOW - what an amazing story Pat- and a wonderful page to tell the visual part of the story. It's amazing how many people WON'T open their door- I can understand, but then again- God was looking out for her and that baby. She didn't have the baby with her & YOU answered the door. I imagine she was so scared. At least she had the wherewithal to knock on doors & you to answer one.
What a beautiful story, it brought tears to my eyes!! What a lucky young lady to have found you!!! I LOVE your LO and I think those are the most beautiful papers I have seen!!! Fantastic job!!! Fav.
WOW! She was, in spite of having had an accident, a very lucky girl to find your house when she needed help! The ugly papers worked very nicely with your photos and story.
What an amazing story! You were the reason no one else answered their doors, she needed your compassion. This is a beautiful page....can't even believe those were ugly papers!
Wow!! What a blessing you are!! So glad she's ok!!
I can't even tell these are suppose to be ugly papers!! The lo looks wonderful!! Love the tan paper!!
Here's my Ugly Papers, courtesy of laurak1, who even though she thought she was being mean, had no idea that I had the perfect photographs and sketch all lined up to make these papers and embellishment work to my advantage.
Here's the story - which you KNOW there is one, right?
Several weeks ago, the middle of the night - seriously like 2a.m. - our doorbell started ringing like crazy. DH and I both jumped out of bed, startled and disoriented, raced to the door, opened it, and there stood this young woman, covered in blood, shaking and crying, and saying, "Please Help Me!"
It turns out, Ava had rolled her SUV a half mile from our house and had WALKED down to our house, knocking on SIX different doors until she got to us. Nobody answered until we did. She was battered, bruised, and definitely shocky. She kept repeating over and over, "thank you so much for answering the door. Thank you for answering. My cell phone is dead. Do you think my car is ok?"
Tom called 911, and I started some basic first aid triage to assess the extent of the damage. Her injuries were relatively minor - she had a nasty laceration on one of her hands, and a big bump on her head, and she kept saying that she was having trouble breathing - but her air bag had deployed so we were fairly sure that she was ok as far as that went. She was able to give me her father's phone number, and I called him - leaving a message on his voice mail explaining what had happened, that the ambulance was on its way, we didn't know what hospital she was going to and repeating several times, "She is OK."
Once it was obvious that she was stable, and because she was so worried about her car, I got in my truck and drove down to the accident site. She was unbelievably lucky - on more than one count.
You see, in addition to wearing her seat belt - Ava was alone in the car. She'd left her 10 month old son with her father to babysit while she went out with some friends from our neighborhood. That's part of the reason for the wreck. Ava isn't from our town - she lives in Norman, which is a good 45 minutes away. So she didn't realize that the "S" curves a half mile from our house are incredibly treacherous since they T into a gravel road and the gravel frequently creates a slick surface on the downhill side of the curves. She'd hit that gravel and flipped like three or four times, coming to rest UPRIGHT against a tree in the deep ditch on the easement. The roof of the back seat was caved completely onto the floor. The baby's car seat - what was left of it - was smashed flat. If he'd been with her, she'd be attending his funeral.
As it was, she was treated an released. She came by with her father and her son later that afternoon to say "thank you for answering your door." All I could say was, "Oh, HONEY! I'm so HAPPY to see you up and walking around! And I'm so happy that we were home and able to help."
So, thanks Laur -- the embellishment really did clench things for me. I saw it and knew EXACTLY what these papers wanted to be.
