Wednesday, October 19th, 2011 – So this is Shanghai! WOW! Gorgeous port – I was amazed to see how big and modern it was! We took the shuttle bus from the ship to the Bund, which is a nice walking area on the water – beautiful skyscrapers are across the water.
We spent the day with Gary and Bev Hartman – we all agreed to ride the Hop-On Hop-off bus to see the city. Two double-decker bus companies offered 24-hour passes but one was $5.00 and the other was $41.00 with nearly all the same stops. We took the $5.00 tour.
After we finished on the Hop On-Hop off bus, Gary and Bev wanted to go through the Bund Tourist Tunnel so we went too. It was awful.
We went to a shopping area but with every step there was someone in your face saying, “Rolex Lady?” “Want a watch Lady?” “Nice handbag lady, come see.” Then they shoved a brochure with pictures of watches and purses and scarves in our faces. You want to tell them to “Go away” but as soon as one stops following you, another takes their place. I hated shopping there – it was so annoying. We did buy a cute outfit for Roan but it came from one of the shops, not from the street salesman. Bill bought laser light pens that does patterns – one for himself and one each for John and Joe.
We barely made it back to the ship in time for the Chinese acrobat show at 7:00PM, then to the Lido for dinner. The show was actually very good, though not as grand as the one we saw in the theater in Beijing. Both shows ended with face-changing artists.
