This is for the new Imperfect Lives: Rejection challenge. Hidden journaling is tucked away behind the photo, attached to the top right photo corner...it says:

Rejection is a nasty word, but almost everyone is familiar with it.

Rejection can mean a lot of different things. We can be rejected by friends. We can be rejected by a spouse, by children, or by parents. We can be rejected by people who hardly know us. Rejection, whether by a loved one or a stranger, is so terrible because it means we've been snubbed in the worst possible way by a person or persons from whom we expected sympathy, friendship, or help. And when other human beings tell us with their words or actions that we're not worth their time, it hurts... sometimes very, very deeply.

When we feel rejected, we tend to react in certain predictable ways. We often become angry with ourselves and assume that we've done something to deserve rejection. We grow bitter at the person or persons who rejected us. And we turn our angry eyes up to God and wonder if He isn't rejecting us as well.

Are these appropriate responses? They're perfectly understandable reactions, but in the end they don't really do much beyond simply heaping more painful emotions--anger, self-contempt, bitterness--onto the feelings of rejection and loss we're already feeling. Being angry with yourself or with others won't take away the hurt.

So are we stuck with the pain? Must we simply accept our rejection and content ourselves with the fact that nobody cares?

In fact, there is one person you can always turn to, who has promised to never reject you. God knows rejection, and he will never turn you away, no matter how bleak your situation looks--no matter why, by whom, or how badly you've been rejected. He knows the depths of rejection and he wants to help you safely out of them, to help you face your disappointment and loss and to remind you how precious you are in His eyes.
