I think the ribbon banner subdues the bright red of the photo. Jason's sash doesn't look this bright in his photo (as t they are a 2 page spread in the book), I found it a challenge to find something that would tie in the bright red with the subtle background colors. I think it turned out pretty well, I am satisfied with the end result.
