I rubber band the layers first with the rolled up blankets and clothes, the bottom one is the flat little diapers just going around the blanket center...then when I have the three layers and shoes and stuff loosely figured out, I use wood skewers that I start and push down through the 2nd layer into the bottom layer, I use 2 of them there, then I do the same with the top layer pushing through to the 2nd layer...It seems to be enough, as I have never had the layers fall apart...I usually add a ribbon around the animal on top and skewer it to the top of the cake...shoes, I use packing clear tape to just "stick" to the layer...also use that under the bottom layer to stabilize it and make it "non skid" tuck in all the other things or tie on...and there your go, you're done....maybe I should do steps by pictures to post on my site? What do you think? Thanks for looking
Faith, you certainly are the queen of the diaper cakes, I am going to a baby shower this weekend and thought I would stop by and lookie at your great creations again, to see if I could possibly make one!! How in the world do you hold them together with wood skewers? up the middle? I soo love the name on the front!
My 8th cake, first football. See the rest in my gallery. Thanks for looking. My personal signature: The name of the baby on the front. Fun...If you haven't ever tried one, you really should. I always include onies, sleepers, blankets, and other clothes, washclothes, etc, and shoes of course...lots of stuff. This was an order for someone who saw another I did at a baby shower. I hold them together with wood skewers. Enjoy...
