Journaling (under large photo): Darla, my co-worker, bought us both a little Christmas Cactus at Wal-Mart in 2000. They were so small, they were planted in little one cup planters. We put them on our desks and babied them until summer. During the summer we put them near the window and they grew. We took care of the little cactuses for several years. One day we noticed that Darla's cactus didn't look very good. Within a month it was dead, so I told her the remaining cactus would be “ours”.

We moved it to the front counter. I water and feed it in the spring, summer and early fall. Around Halloween I put it in the break room where it gets a longer period of darkness at night and helps to stimulate the blooms.

Before long it is full of blooms. Some years it will bloom around Halloween, then again at Thanksgiving and has always bloomed on Christmas Day. A few years it bloomed again around the end of January or beginning of February.

This is the prettiest Christmas cactus I have ever seen with its fuchsia and white blooms. Every two years, I repot it in a bigger pot and put it back on the edge of the front counter. Our customers love it. Several have taken a start from it to start their own pretty cactus. I wanted to share it with you and include it in my Christmas album.. Photo taken December 2008.

Thanks for looking:)
