Nothing was pretty about Hurricane Katrina, but this is a great layout and it really captures the feel of what happened. I can sympathize with your situation, believe me! Great work!
I found this really cool blog challenge...http://www.scrappingthemusic.blogspot.com/ When I heard last week's song, the funkiness, the soulfulness, and an artist with a last name of Broussard and an accent like mine, not as thick though ;) the images of the evacuation of Katrina rushed through my mind as well as the city of New Orleans. Not a pretty layout, and not my favorite, I just did what I was feeling from that song called "Home" by Marc Broussard.
The background has an X on it with duct tape to represent all of the homes that were marked. The pics to the left are pics of New Orleans I took a year later walking and driving around as well as the center photo "we will rebuild." The center top and bottom photos are of "us" the family evacuated and staying in friends' garage, which we were very thankful for. Photos to the right...top two are of what was left of my nieces car and apartment, which was torn down and rebuilt; next two are of my Mom's house and the refrigerator we set out (Mom had suddenly passed away that February), then the rest are of us with other families at a friends of ours with hearts as big as I've ever met.
The old man with us, kept saying he wanted to go home...all we could see was the news, and we kept telling him you can't go home, they won't let you. None of us knew at the time if we had a home, but we all just wanted to go home.
