One July morning I had stepped outside and noticed a black object out by the road. As I walked closer to it, it moved! It was this adorable baby raccoon. I looked around to see if his mom was nearby, but there was nothing. I went back to the house and grabbed a blanket to pick him up in. As I reached down to get him, I noticed that he was very thin and near death. We called Animal Control to see what our options were for him. The only option they had was to destroy him, and added that he would only grow up to be a pest anyway. Well, that would not do! We did some checking and some calling and managed to find a young girl right in our town the does rehabilitation on injured and orphaned wildlife. We took Noggin (named that because he always slept on his head!) to her and she said that we were just in time. She said she would get him healthy again and then release him back into the woods. I know, someday I'm probably going to be screaming at the top of my lungs at him for getting in my garbage if he decides to visit me again, but I feel very good knowing that I spent one day with Noggin helping to save his life!...tfl
