This is me holding Will when he was 2 or 3 days old. As an infant, Will slept very little during the day. At bedtime, he refused to sleep in his crib, no matter what I did. After waking up his father and brother countless times during the night, I finally decided to go downstairs and sleep with him in our recliner. This became a ritual which lasted for 3 solid months - notice the circles under my eyes!!
For anyone interested, the jounaling reads:
"Will, my tiny little angel. My sweet little baby who just did not nap for very long. As an infant, you would nap anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes a day. That's it. You loved to be held and I loved to hold you. You were so soft and cuddly; I couldn't resist that wonderful baby smell. Holding you felt like a piece of heaven drifted down from above. But, you had a bit of a problem at bedtime because you would not sleep in your crib. I used to rock you in the rocking chair in your room. Shortly after you fell asleep I would place you, ever so gently, in your crib. Within seconds, you would wake up and start crying.
Night after night it was the same thing. The only way to stop your crying was to pick you up. I even tried to warm the sheet before placing you on it. Your crying would wake up your father and sometimes your brother so I decided it would be better overall to go downstairs to the family room and get some sleep in the chair that used to belong to your great grandmother, Florence. At bedtime, I would simply lay back in that chair with you in my arms. That way we all got some sleep. There were times when I feared that I would drop you but I wrapped the blanket around you and tucked both sides under my back. We slept in that chair every single night for three solid months. I knew I had to stop that ritual at some point so one night I placed you in your crib and, lo and behold, you stayed asleep all night. Sweet memories, for sure. I love you so much, little boy."

Wow. I love this. How did I miss this terrific page in your gallery? I just adore the soft yellow paper. What line is it, do you remember? Your journaling really tugged at me and now I feel guilty about grousing because my son, who turned 4-months-old today, still has not slept through the night... But I can't imagine sleeping in a recliner for three months straight. You just gave me an attitude adjustment, LOL! Back to your page, I love that you included a little clock. So appropriate. And all your swirls and stars and flowers are so pretty. Just wonderful, wonderful. Love it all.

Dittos what was posted below.. I did the same thing with each of my boys. They just did not seem to adjust to the outside world the first few months. They just where more content next to me.. I got to the point where I used one of those baby pouches.. That worked great.. Could still get my stuff done and keep baby content.. Beautiful layout.. Love the flowers and the border punch accent.. And the clock is too cute..

This is beautiful Lori. I don't know how I missed it. You put so many beautiful little details in it. I had to do that some with my DD. I think she just wanted the attention and to be close to me. She seemed to love to stay on my chest and with her ear over my heart. She started that in the hospital (not sleeping unless she stayed next to my heart). I bought her the teddy bear that had a beating heart and put it in her bed with her while she went to sleep and held him next to me while I fed her so he had my smell. Maybe he needed more time sleeping with your heartbeat too. Their "environment"s change so drastically when they are born it is a wonder that ANY newborn can go right to a bed or cradle as soon as the are born.

Lori, this is such an AMAZING layout! The details are great (as usual) and I love how the title looks. But the journaling...how sweet! What a beautiful story to tell your son and such a perfect way to do it. It reminded me of all those nights as a new mommy. :-)

so sweet. Our ds would only sleep in his swing for about six months! We would take turns sleeping on the couch while he was in the swing. He was almost two before we realized we could have put the swing in our bedroom!!

Wow very touching journaling.. I remember so well when my kids where babies. However it wasn't ever 45mintues.. I had to get up ever 2 hours to breastfeed my son... partially my own pain, said ok little guy your gonna have to eat. lol But that was one thing that I really didn't have a problem with.. I liked the nighttimes.. it was just me and him.. mommy and baby time. I got used to doing it ever 2 hours it became second nature.

This is STUNNING!!! I love the journaling. Perfect title.
I had the same problem with my son he was a premature and wanted to be in a fetal position to sleep, I would put him in the baby carrier and then put the carrier in the crib by my bed. It would amaze me that that was the only place he would sleep. lol.

Not only is the layout beautiful, but the journaling actually brought a tear to my eye. There is nothing any more precious than a baby at this age, well at all stages, but this was always my favorite. My daughter's youngest son (who is now 9) would never sleep in his crib either, in fact he slept with them for a long long time!!!!!! This is a favorite. Your work is always beautiful!

I thought I was the only one with a kid who did that!!! Was he a preemie? Jordan's Dr. said it was because she was a preemie and was used to being held near constantly by the NICU staff. So I slept with her on my chest for probably 4-5 months after she came home. This is so soft and sweet, and your journaling is wonderful.

This is such a beautiful, tender, sweet page! A perfect Mother's Day layout, and boy does it bring back memories. Ben would only sleep in his swing, which was a wind up that would go for 20 minutes, so I slept on the couch next to him in 20 minute intervals for several months!

This picture immediately brought back wonderful memories of holding my DD like this when she was born, although not because she wouldn't sleep - just because I never wanted to lay her down!!! this is such a precious and beautiful layout! oh, only mothers know how hard it is in those early days.....My first one didn't sleep through the night until he was 13 months old.....(my fault - I thought he needed a bottle every time he woke up...so I had him trained to wake up every night at 4 am for a bottle) - anyway...I went back to work 8 weeks after he was born...so I learned to operate on Auto-Pilot for a year...ugh! Read and followed the Baby Whisperer with my second...and she has always been a good sleeper......
|
|

Love the blues and yellows! The journaling and picture are so sweet! I need to show this to my dil...she's going through the same thing with baby Tyler. They just don't like being separated from their mamas.
