This is me holding Will when he was 2 or 3 days old. As an infant, Will slept very little during the day. At bedtime, he refused to sleep in his crib, no matter what I did. After waking up his father and brother countless times during the night, I finally decided to go downstairs and sleep with him in our recliner. This became a ritual which lasted for 3 solid months - notice the circles under my eyes!!

For anyone interested, the jounaling reads:

"Will, my tiny little angel. My sweet little baby who just did not nap for very long. As an infant, you would nap anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes a day. That's it. You loved to be held and I loved to hold you. You were so soft and cuddly; I couldn't resist that wonderful baby smell. Holding you felt like a piece of heaven drifted down from above. But, you had a bit of a problem at bedtime because you would not sleep in your crib. I used to rock you in the rocking chair in your room. Shortly after you fell asleep I would place you, ever so gently, in your crib. Within seconds, you would wake up and start crying.

Night after night it was the same thing. The only way to stop your crying was to pick you up. I even tried to warm the sheet before placing you on it. Your crying would wake up your father and sometimes your brother so I decided it would be better overall to go downstairs to the family room and get some sleep in the chair that used to belong to your great grandmother, Florence. At bedtime, I would simply lay back in that chair with you in my arms. That way we all got some sleep. There were times when I feared that I would drop you but I wrapped the blanket around you and tucked both sides under my back. We slept in that chair every single night for three solid months. I knew I had to stop that ritual at some point so one night I placed you in your crib and, lo and behold, you stayed asleep all night. Sweet memories, for sure. I love you so much, little boy."
