We just went around the world and it took 75 days to get from home and back, going from Jacksonville, Florida to Sicily, Italy, then Naples, Pompeii, then Rome. From Rome we took a train to Civitivecchio, Italy and jumped on a cruise ship which stopped at two places in Egypt, three places in India, went through the Suez Canal, went to Dubai, Malasia, Thailand (where we rode elephants), and Singapore. After 4 days in Singapore we flew to Tokyo and spent 4 days. Then we flew to Okinawa and spent 9 days, the we flew to Hawaii for almost 3 weeks.

The strangest part of the trip was going through the Somalian waters. Everyone got notices that the ship would be going faster than normal and would be going in a zig-zag patter, not to be alarmed.

For the next 24 hours there were armed guards posted all around the rails of the cruise ship on both sides.

We we were told in announcements that if there was a problem we were all to hurry to the casino where there were no exterior windows and stay until it was safe.

That was a little exciting - we wanted to at least see a pirate, but no such luck. My husband wanted to get everyone to start throwing deck chairs overboard if a pirate ship approached. That would have definitely added to the excitement!
