Hidden Journaling:
Christmas Eve at the Irwin house is full of many more surprises than just the ones wrapped up and tucked under the tree, and this year was no exception. For starters, we had a whole wall dedicated to tracking Santa on his journey around the world thanks to a projector and the Internet. You never realize how fast reindeer can really fly until you see it live and on Doppler radar! The counters were covered in finger food of all kinds but NOTHING is tastier than candy cane cookies specially made by Santa's little helpers (aka. nieces and nephew). The fellowship that comes along with a family gathering had several entertaining interruptions. First we were graced by an indoor concert as Caleb showcased his guitar skills with a rousing rendition of Jingle Bells. Then my sister transformed us into the live audience of a game show with her creation of Name That Nativity Scene Character! She hid the individual nativity characters around the house and devised clues for the kids that not only described the characters but gave a hint as to their location. It was so imaginative on her part, and the fun the children had was even more so because they got to learn the importance of each person involved in the actual Christmas story. The finale of the evening was the one tradition my family does have each Christmas. My father always reads the nativity story to us straight from the Bible so that we end our night by truly celebrating the real reason for Christmas….the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The blessings of Christmas are truly realized when they are shared with the ones you hold dearest and this Christmas was the greatest of blessings because of my family.
