I picked out a waterproof black ink to use as a stamped outline, and then fill in the images using some watercolor pencils I had from years ago. I also got some great basic inks - Distress Ink in Vintage Photo, some ink daubers in pearl, gold, and silver, and a cats-eye "chalk" ink stack in pretty colors. A friend suggested a palette of chalks, and I am really glad I got them. They are so fun to use.
I also wanted to be able to paint directly onto my stamps using different colored markers; I bought some Marvy Le Plume II markers and the ink "beaded up' on my stamps. I was so disappointed and this was my second ink marker purchase that seemed to not work for my purposes, but I did some internet research and discovered you just have to condition your stamps by rubbing them with an eraser so they will accept the ink. I love using these!
